For high-speed games (e.g. FPSs), you'd want something with 8ms or better. Otherwise you'll experience blurring and it'll seem unresponsive.

It should be noted, though, that the methodologies used for acquiring those ms numbers vary between manufacturers (read: some exaggerate their numbers more than others). A "good" 12ms monitor may very well look better in real-life situations than a "bad" 8ms one.
well i could get this one which is a viewsonic with 8ms

Why don't you try it out for yourself instead of getting someone else's opinion. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to monitors. I, for example, don't notice blurring so much (I know it's there, it's just not much of an issue, even in FPSs), but I do notice color banding, which can drive me nuts.

Also, as has been mentioned, resellers and even manufacturers will likely give you the optimal response time. Those 8ms might be grey-to-grey, while you'll typically get 16ms.

because in the UK, unlike the USA, there is no returns on open box items.

I'm sure you can find a store that carries these models and ask to see it in action.

By the way, the Samsung 710N is a discontinued model (at least from the point of view of the US site). This is not necessarily a bad thing, just something you should be aware of.

it's possible you will notice a bit of blurring with fast paced games. My monitor at work must be 12 ms. I noticed it at first, then not that much. It's not that much of an issue tbh, unless you're one of those hardware freak.

My monitor at home is a 8ms, and it's never been an issue. It's a Samsung as well.

Everything is better with Metal.

That's because Samsung monitors are awesome. I have a 204b, want a 244t.
