Hi all, I'm looking for programmers who want to help make games more accessible to the hearing impaired and deaf. I'm hearing impaired myself and find a lot of games to be really difficult to play, depending on the game. A game like The Last Express is impossible because few of the voices are subtitled. A game like Doom3 is also hard to play because of the sounds of enemies coming from all directions and I might miss important audio cues. That's why with the help of some programmers I created the Doom3[CC] mod which was very well received. I want to take this idea of closed captioning in games to the next level. I have ideas for creating tools and a closed captioning engine that developers can plug into their game's code base that will help them close caption their game. I can't do this alone though, which is why I'm asking here if someone would like to help? I've got a lot of ideas to share and I think it'd be an awesome project to work on. Thanks, -Reid http://gamescc.rbkdesign.com/

What about try making some screens where you can see the sound waves. I mean like small screens on the side so you know by watching them how mutch sound it is in the game. and the screens are ofcorse part of the main screen for the game

I Agree with the above poster. The easiest thing to do would be to tap into the sound driver and monitor the channel output levels.. Then have a graphic indicator on the sides of the screens (or corners if its a 4 channel setup) of increased audio levels.. Let the users set their sensitivity levels and voila..

Wish I was a programmer I'd be happy to help ;)

The above idea sounds confusing to me, I'm not sure you understand what I'm talking about?

I made a video a few months ago about CC in games. First I talk about it, then I show off a mod I have since canceled that added CC to Quake4. I canceled the mod because I want to expand this idea to other games.
