Hey guys, I'm recruiting team members for a project I've been working on for a few years now. Send me an email if you're interested in joining. Team name: Undecided Project name: BattleStone Brief description: The game is a turn-based RPG set in a fantasy world. (Think Breath of Fire, Suikoden I or II, early Final Fantasy) The story is revolves around a 1000 war between humans and elves, and an ancient ruin known as the BattleStone. The stone was found during the last 100 years of the war, when the current emperor was on his campaign in the heart of the Elven Empire. Since then a cease-fire has been called, and the people enjoy a temporary piece. The stone is now in hands of the emperor’s top mages, who research franticly trying to unlock the secrets behind its’ crystal walls. Ark, a young soldier in the imperial army, is about to be assigned a new mission, a mission that will change his life forever. Target aim: Freeware or shareware. Technology/Engine: 3D Game Studio http://www.3dgamestudio.com/ Compensation: None. Sorry, this is volunteer work for the time being. Talent needed: 3D artists 3D animators Concept artist C++ Programmers C-Script Programmers &#106avascript Programmers Level designers Check http://www.battlestone.net/helpwanted.htm for more information. Additional information: I’ve been working on the idea for a few years now. I have written over 170 pages of script for the game (which is about 90% complete), along with a 20-page design document. I have put a lot of time and effort into this idea, so I am very series about it. good luck man!

great to see someone that has invested a great deal of time into something prior to searching for a team to turn it into reality.

cheers,

Played that flash demo you made in promit's post. I played for 15 minutes. It's damn fun. People PLEASE help this guy out. This project seems to be amazing.

I agree!!! It is great to see someone really paying attention and developing something before seeking a crew. I think you'll find (at least I hope) that more people will be receptive to a well thought out plan and idea instead of someone saying they only have a company name in mind and no real idea behind the game.

Best of luck to you!!!

looking like you have planned things out. however i highly recommend not using 3dgamestudio. i once used it and from an artist's perspective it is really limiting (it didn't even support uv coords for models!). and from what i hear of programmers the scripting language is aso very limiting and the c++ plugin is useless. what are you looking for in a game engine? tell me and i'll see if i can recommend any to you.

edit: after checking up it seems they may have fixed the uv problem, but also looks like all other limitations still exist. along witha few bugs, their fire doesn't render correctly on my video card (7800 gt).

That is really good work !

I wish you the best of luck. If i had a little more time i'd be glad to help !
I hope you'll find people to help you.

For the moment I want to try sticking with 3dgamestudio, mainly because I know someone who’s worked with it before and he can probably help out if we run into a problem. What other engines would you recommend?

well i can't help but recommend the C4 Engine, which in my opinion is the best choice for your type of game. It also is what i am using for my game.
However if you're wanting the graphical capability of 3dgamestudio but with no limitations for graphics or for programming i'd recommend the Cipher Engine. keep in mind the cipher engine is no longer being developed, however even in its current state it surpases 3dgamestudio by far.
basically i recommend anything but 3dgamestudio, they way overcharge for their tech, are way too limiting on the major sides of development, can't really use c++ to a large extent...etc. C4 has full graphical capability and still runs at very impressive speeds, is multiplatform and runs on windows and mac, has very clean code, allows an artist to easily create material shaders on the fly. it has an editor for nice placement of lighting and placement of entities and visual scripting system and node properties to connect predefined properties to any model object you see fit. basically the editor allows a non-programmer to put togther complex levels taht use preprogrammed stuff from the programmer, similar to unreal 3 engine's system.
and the cipher engine is also very solid, clean code, cool partical and shader creation programs for an artist. only downside is that its graphics are getting outdated, but again they are still above 3dgamestudio.

p.s. please ignore bitshade's review, it is outdated, ill informaed and just wrong on all points. he states that,
1.) C4 has many bugs on ATi cards
2.) 3D sound is not right there yet
3.) only Collada support yet, not everyone has a high priced modelling package or wants to use Blender!
4.) no physics
5.) no terrain support

i say,

1.) All bugs have been worked around and all features are now working on ATI and Nvidia cards. However this was due to a limitation in ATI's opengl drivers (as they are so famous for).
2.)I've used the 3d sound... i don't get what he is saying.
3.)All major 3d apps support collada. Blender, 3ds max, maya, xsi, even sketchup (if you consider it a 3d modeling app), and many others and growing. you're in no way limited to only the blender...
4.)Boy is he spoiled, since when have you seen a 3d game engine that is below $1,000 that has full physics implementation?! Eitherway many users have implemented Bullet, Physx, and newton into c4 and have their code public (to c4 owners).
5.)The terrain is lacking, i will admit this. However the terrain is just as advanced as 3dgamestudios, actually even more advanced since you cna use detail textures. Even more so the next major build of c4 (after the one being released in like a wek) will have full multitexturing terrain support like torque, but also support normal mapping for the terrain textures, and a foilage system similar to speedtree.

Well, i hope this post was helpful, if you have any questions just ask.
