Unknown object vibration

Hello there, I am doing is something like tetris and have multiple rectangles with a texture move verticallly from the top of the screen to the bottom. When I do so, I have this quite strange effect of "vibrating objects" when I let them move throuh the screen. Most of the time all of them look absolutely smooth but after a few seconds the objects at the top start to "vibrate" vertically irregularly. It is hard to describe how it looks but I would say the object, while moving downwards, is jumping between two positions with one pixel difference at a visible and not stable frequency. Not only that this effect applies to one object, no, it is like an invisible field moving vertically over all the objects making them vibrate for some time, then they stabilize and everything is perfectly smooth again. After about 10 seconds, it repeats. I tried with pretransformed vertices as well as in real 3D with my own transformations but the result is identical. Just to make sure, I replaced my objects by horizontal lines of one pixel height and checked if it has do do with the textures but the effect is the same. Just vibrating lines. Anybody an idea ? Uh, not to forget, I am programming on an Athlon 500 with a Radeon 9250. Yet, I measured that I make about 300 frames per second so there should be no performance problem. Hope somebody can help me on this. Thanks. Lorenz

It could just be image tearing. Try running your game with a present interval of one so you are v-syncing with your monitor's refresh rate.

Most of the time I work in windowed mode but tried once in fullscreen with the same effect. I just checked that D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_ONE will not work in windowed mode but only in full screen.

Starting to work on getting full screen running again but will take some minutes. Is it possible that this problem will go away in full screen mode ?

Thanks.

Just finished testing in fullscreen mode. I used all settings:

D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_IMMEDIATE
D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_ONE
D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_TWO
D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_THREE
D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_FOUR

with the effect that the vibration on IMMEDIATEwas basically almost always somewhere, whereas D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_FOUR provided a much better result of sporadic vibrating areas with some time in between.

I also played with FullScreen_RefreshRateInHz by setting either
D3DPRESENT_RATE_DEFAULT or the current refresh rate of the monitor with
no effect.

Thanks so far. Any other ideas ?
