I've taken a look at the latest introcode and I think its ready for beta. Only thing I would change is to move the project-files for Dev-Cpp and Codeblocks from /lessonX/projects to /lessonX/projects/windows/wgl/Dev-Cpp|Codeblocks (if I read svn info correctly you updated these files a few days ago Caste), but that can be fixed later. So now we only have to add the license-files and notices, then zip it up and put on the site! [smile]. If I understand eveyrthing correctly the notice should be something like:
Quote:
Copyright Nehe Productions 2007. All rights reserved. This sourcecode is licensed under the Apache style License, version 1.1 . See license.txt for more information.
And the license.txt-file:
Quote:

(note that mail@nehegamedev.net probably needs changing. ) #1: Should it be called "Apache style license" or "Apache Software License"? #2: Perhaps we should use html for the license-files cause that way we won't have problem with compability (*nix uses UTF8 while Windows notepad still uses ANSI. They also have different chars for line-breaks).

Why are we including gl.h in the lessons? Aside from the obvious problems (Windows requires windows.h before any inclusion of gl.h, Mac OS X doesn't work with and expects ) I thought we were trying to keep that in the base code.

Upon trying to get the code to run for windows I ran into this error.

#ifndef NEHE_LESSON_01_H#define NEHE_LESSON_02_H#include <GL/gl.h>#include <GL/glu.h>#include <iostream>#include "../nehewindow/defaultlesson.h"

I had go in and change them to the following:
#ifndef NEHE_LESSON_01_H#define NEHE_LESSON_01_H#include <iostream>#include "../nehewindow/defaultlesson.h"#include <GL/gl.h>#include <GL/glu.h>

Otherwise I recieved +300 errors, the default lesson must be included BEFORE the gl includes. I also had to apply #ifdefs to the base codes for windows.

Could I please have a concise list of known flaws with the code?
I'd also like confirmation on what project files we'll be including in the package, and of the fact that we're intending to bundle this as a single package at least for the present initial release.

Draft release summary (to be posted to the NeHe front page):
Quote:
Public beta of updated NeHe lesson code
Those of you who have been eagerly awaiting the first batch of new NeHe lessons will be pleased to hear that the sample code for the first 5 lessons has been released for public beta. Please check the full version of this article for further details, and feel free to leave any comments or questions you might have in this thread in the NeHe discussion forum.

Draft release expanded version (to be posted as the full body of the article):
Quote:
Public beta of updated NeHe lesson code
Those of you who've been following the progress of the NeHe site will be aware that some time ago a team of skilled volunteers was formed with the intention of producing fresh, up-to-date content for the site. Until recently we've unfortunately not had much in the way of progress visible to the public and we would like to take this opportunity to thank people for thier continued patience with the work the team has been and continues doing. Producing a good quality set of lessons that's worthy of carrying on the NeHe legacy is a large task, especially for a team of people doing this in what spare time they have available, but rather than compromise on quality the team has been hard at work to produce the best possible results.

You may have noticed some recent updates to the NeHe site. You're now able to submit OpenGL related-news which if approved will be posted to the NeHe front page. The code for the site itself has also been cleaned up somewhat to improve stability and response time, and work on this front continues to go on behind the scenes.

We're also happy to announce that the code for the first five of the new lessons has reached a stage where we're releasing it for public beta. At this point we must stress that this is a beta version of the code and as such may still contain bugs; if you encounter any problems or have feedback or questions about the code, please respond to this topic in the NeHe discussion forum, making sure to give plenty of detail of any bugs you may be reporting.

The package containing the sample code contains project files for the following:

DOWNLOAD THE SAMPLE CODE HERE (,)

Known issues with the current sample code include:

We hope to have the accompanying lesson text available for public review shortly and will keep you updated on progress. In the meantime, we look forward to feedback on the beta code.

Draft forum announcement (to be posted and stickied in the forum):

Code for first 5 lessons open for public beta
The long wait is over for those of you who have been waiting for some more concrete signs of progress on the updated NeHe content. The team would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience while they've been working away behind the scenes. We understand things have seemed slow -- particularly as you've been unable to see much in the way of progress until now -- but as a team of volunteers working on this in thier spare time the team have been working hard to produce new content worthy of carrying on the NeHe legacy.

You can now download the package containing the beta of the sample code for the first five of the new lessons here. The package contains project files for the following:

We must at this point stress that the code currently provided is a beta version and may not function correctly or as expected in all cases; we'd like the communities feedback and suggestions to help flush out and deal with any remaining issues. Known issues with the current code include:

We hope to have the accompanying lesson text available shortly, please keep watching the forums and NeHe front page for further updates. In the meantime, your feedback and any comments, suggestions or bug reports are welcome in this thread.

All current stickies in the NeHe forum should be unstuck immediately prior to posting this update. Ideal posting order should be as follows:
- Post news item to site.
- Post forum update to forum including link to news item.
- Link to forum thread should be edited into news item immediately, as a rapid edit will fall within the forum software's grace perdiod for the "edited by" message.
- Sticky forum thread (may be done concurrently with edit to news item).

Feedback or comments welcome.

@BBB:
Yeah, I changed the .dev files so they work correctly now..
Did you change the paths to the source files in the .dev file when you moved them?
I think it should be called apache style license but I'm not sure.

@Kaz:
Your drafts look fine, problems with the code are texture disappearing when toggling fullscreen in lesson05 but should not be a problem to change, tomorrow I'll have more time to do so.

And you have to ask overlord if the texture-issue in lesson05 got fixed.

It should work now, the problem was that it only loaded the textures once, instead of every time you get a new render context (witch happens every time you toggle full screen mode).
So the init function is now called in the create glwindow function instead of just before the the main loop.
Though i haven't compiled it for other systems than windows.

So all you guys want is the zipped file to be posted somewhere in the file tree and then a link to its location?

Guys, I've got a lot of midterms coming up, so I won't be able to deal with any problems that may arise. Please try to keep fiddling with the NeHeLib to a minimum; the more it changes the more our lesson code development is slowed.

I've just taken a look at the zip file above. Now, I haven't looked at the code for a month, and can I just say well done to everyone that has been working on it since I last had time to. The code is clean, well organized just generally very good [smile]

It may have taken a little a while, but it's definitely worth it [wink]

Luke.

P.S. BBB, sorry I couldn't zip it up yesterday, but I got beaten to it this morning [smile]

There is one small bug in the code. The lesson's OnInitialize is being called twice now that is called when the window is created. I recommend we change nehebasewindow.cpp like so:

bool CNeheBaseWindow::Initialize() {
assert(mp_Lesson != 0);
// return mp_Lesson->OnInitialize(); //< Remove this
return true; //Just return true
}
