Quote:I think Cameron is going to take a lot of heat over this one. Pay your final respects to Anna Nicole because the next big distraction has arrived... What say ye?
... In a new documentary, Producer Cameron and his director, Simcha Jacobovici, make the starting claim that Jesus wasn't resurrected --the cornerstone of Christian faith-- and that his burial cave was discovered near Jerusalem. And, get this, Jesus sired a son with Mary Magdelene. ... Let's go back 27 years, when Israeli construction workers were gouging out the foundations for a new building in the industrial park in the Talpiyot, a Jerusalem suburb. of Jerusalem. The earth gave way, revealing a 2,000 year old cave with 10 stone caskets. Archologists were summoned, and the stone caskets carted away for examination. It took 20 years for experts to decipher the names on the ten tombs. They were: Jesua, son of Joseph, Mary, Mary, Mathew, Jofa and Judah, son of Jesua. Israel's prominent archeologist Professor Amos Kloner didn't associate the crypt with the New Testament Jesus. His father, after all, was a humble carpenter who couldn't afford a luxury crypt for his family. And all were common Jewish names. ... But film-makers Cameron and Jacobovici claim to have amassed evidence through DNA tests, archeological evidence and Biblical studies, that the 10 coffins belong to Jesus and his family. ... Cameron is holding a New York press conference on Monday at which he will reveal three coffins, supposedly those of Jesus of Nazareth, his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. News about the film, which will be shown soon on Discovery Channel, Britain's Channel 4, Canada's Vision, and Israel's Channel 8, has been a hot blog topic in the Middle East (check out a personal favorite: Israelity Bites) Here in the Holy Land, Biblical Archeology is a dangerous profession. This 90-minute documentary is bound to outrage Christians and stir up a titanic debate between believers and skeptics.

This is going to explode all over the news next week: Jesus: Tales from the Crypt
You know Jesus stoned a dove and ressurected it too? [rolleyes]
I find this more amusing than offensive, but sadly I don't doubt that some Christians will be up in (verbal)arms.

Here are more details: Mysterious bones of Jesus, Joseph and Mary.
Fact or fiction, it'll get a lot of play in the US corporate media either way, just as the Da Vinci Code did. As far as it's power of distraction goes, I don't think this story could have been scripted better. Even so, I wonder if a documentary is capable of capturing people's imaginations the way a book can. If not then the story won't grow any legs. If it does grow legs, I suppose Cameron will attempt to turn it into a major motion picture staring Tom Hanks ... [grin]

Quote:The story. It seems a pretty obvious prank, but then again so did the Shroud of Turin.

It's a work of fiction; even wackos should be able to understand that.
What's a work of fiction? This study, or the story the study claims to illuminate?
DNA evidence? Did they swab the Cross or something? How dies one data point turn into DNA evidence without being correlated with a reference sample?

I prefer to believe that all the protests against the Da Vinci Code were just because it was a shit book.
A work of fiction? I think it's less fiction than a work that tells a story of a man who stood up from his grave.
...
Don't people have better things to do with their time than worry about this?
Imagine if all the energy people put into attacking things like this went into...I don't know...saving Africa from AIDs. We may just, you know, actually do something meaningful.

And here I thought you were talking about Kristanna Loken

The Bible has no such story. It talks of a God standing from his grave. That's a very different thing.
DNA tests of what?

Even if they could extract viable DNA from these bones, what would they test it against?

So God was dead for a while? Because you can't stand from your grave if you aren't dead first.
Lessbread, you should rename this thread as "Fuel for the Flame".

They found the Cross or the Spear? When did that happen? At the very least they can prove that the corpses are related through DNA. Now making the leap from that to this is the non-resurrected body of Christ and His family is gonna be quite the trick or thoroughly excruciating process of logic and irrefutable evidence.
