Hey, Well, I am going to be taking my Dad's Laptop to college in the fall, so I decided that since this weekend was free, now would be as good a time as any to start installing all the development tools I use. I started by installing VC++ 2003 and the MSDN Library, they work fine. Then, I tried to install the DirectX 9.0 SDK. It started to install, but right when the status bar said something about generating script actions, it stops and I get a message box saying "Internal Error 2343" I googled for this error, and found this thread: Internal Error 2343 I looked at the newgroup post that circlesoft posted, but that didn't work. I had the SDK installed about a year ago before I got my own computer, and not knowing how to uninstall it, I just deleted the C:\DXSDK folder, and now I regret it. I saw in the other thread that this problem was caused by manually deleting files instead of uninstalling a program, and it could be fixed by deleting the relevant registry keys. Does anyone know what these keys would be? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance, Svenjamin

Well, if that's the problem you could just reinstall the whole operating system...

But first you should try RegClean which removes unused registry entries:

Thanks for the reply,
RegClean didn't work, so I am going to reinstall Windows XP. So I went digging through the manuals and Cds that we have, and I discovered that the laptop (it's a sony vaio) didn't ship with an OS CD. You need to use their Vaio system recovery to burn your own set of CDs that copy everything on your hard drive(s) so that you can restore your system at a later point.

I am hesitant to spend time doing this however, because I don't know if it would copy the hard drive as is, so I would still get the same problem.

I also discovered the Windows XP disk for our Gateway computer. This CD will wipe the hard drive(s) and reinstall XP. I don't know if it would be alright to do this though. I don't know if there is something on the CD that will only let it work on Gateway computers, or even more specifically, the one it was shipped with.

Does anybody know if I could just use the Gateway disk? or if using the vaio system recovery would still keep the problem there?

Thanks in Advance,
Svenjamin

EDIT: I was looking at the recovery wizard again, it actually said that it will restore the OS and all PRE-Installed programs, thus restoring it to its original purchased state. I am going to try this.
