I have a few questions concerning the project..

What programming language(s)?
Will the engine be scriptable?
Will it be cross platform (with support to various APIs, ie DirectX)?

Also, What will you be doing to help in the development? I understand your role is "Creative Director", however that is quite vauge. Can you please describe in more detail?

C++
Most licensed engines use a scripting language for the editors, so I think that would be a wise choice.

The platform I want to use is DirectX 10 since it's the next generation API.

I will manage everything like a Director does, help keep the team together, be a communication hub between the team, and help everything get established.

I have about 5yrs experience with C++, and knowledge of 3d engine design and development--so I might be of help here.

I have experience with DirectDraw and OpenGL, not Direct3d though. (I use OGL for 3d development). I am planning on learning D3d soon though.

I have some exp wth Lua (for scripting).

Can you please describe your prior experience (What projects have you worked on)? Just curious..

And with that, pretty much everyone will ignore your request. If you expect people to join your project, you have to be participating in the hands on portion of the development. You need to either be one of the primary programmers, or contribute some excellent artwork. People are expecting you to direct the project not just from a managerial point of you, but from every component of the project you contribute.

I know you want only encouraging feedback, but I have to agree - having no hands-on skills and being the only member on your team, well... you don't have much to offer. Ideas are a dime a dozen..

I just wanted to point out that if the only graphics API you are planning to support is DX10, the only target audience you'll have available is Windows Vista. DX10 is not supported in Windows XP or prior versions of Windows (not to mention OS X and Linux). Even if you take 2-3 years to get this engine ready for prime-time, I have strong doubts that game developers are going to want to use an engine that can only work on one operating system (not all gamers are going to be running Vista, even in 2-3 years time). Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this rather significant decision, otherwise good luck. [smile]

Yes as roots said directx 10 is a limited audience. I would probably like to help but I'm not running vista yet and I use dx9. Not only do you need vista but I think you need a ge-force 8800 series gfx card. Also, could you give some more details? All you said is that it's an RPG. Do you have a story?

Although, if you do decide to use dx10 I also have experience with web design, so I could help out in that area.
