Is thier anyone teaching C++ atm i tried the workshop but i dont have the book and its already been started so i would be very behind and lost very lost i really want to learn programming my life is computers (loser i know ) but its just fun im currently attending HS Sophomore not much out of regular except ALG 2 im not sure if this is an enough math standard to even try C++ but its the one i want to try since its the most Versitile ive tried learnign with the C++ for dummies but i had no idea wth it was tlaking about i learn somthing about Float Values and integers i cant remmeber it well but im a visual learner and i dont really want to wait till college i dont think im at my full potential in the comp world and wanted to challenge myself and to exceed somthing ive been doing some graphic stuff with PS CS 2 but not good at that. Creativity is no objection since i have a lot of spare time usually i just need somone to help me out so i was wondering if thier was somone willing to teach me any Code i will take any teacher i just want to get started my school is fairly reserved so the most advanced comp class were taking is computers applications and im not interested in it since its all about power point ,word, excel boring stuff i like the coding part of computers but ive never gotten far because im very Dumb when i try to learn it myself. So if their is anyone willing to teach me please help me il try to learn as fast as possible and wont take up much time and am a very willing learner
Coinsidering you are a visual learner..
Have you tried implimenting the knowledge you learn from books/tutorials?
(Like, mabey working on very small text games?)
If you find C++ to hard, you can always learn another language (Python, QBasic,
etc), and then learn C++ later when you have more experience with programming.
btw, imo All you need is basic algebra for programming. 3d games, however,
are alot more complex..(Involving vector math,matrices,linear algebra,trig..)
(Ive actually thought about creating some C++ articals myself)
If you like, you can PM (or email) me[smile]

Maybe if you could type in full complete sentences not like this l337 run-on sentence then maybe you could get someone to help you on tutoring for your c++ prgogramming im sorry that nobody can help you as i am not a programmer but good luck with it anyhow

well i would have tried if i even understood any of it
i pretty much dont get what i can do with it or how i can put it into practice
well i just want to learn any language so i can get started.
Dont want to be behind if not C++ than il take anything i guess just somthing to
get me started.
^ YES I KNOW i get the run on sentences and punctuations thing in every forum.
il take more time next time

Then you might find languages such as DarkBasic or BlitzBasic and other game oriented languages a LOT more approachable. These languages are more like souped up scripting languages. They take care of all the hard work for you.
Keep in mind that you will probably learn things the wrong way, and you will have to unlearn a fair bit and do it properly again. But in my early days, we would have killed to have any sort of programming language like that. They only came later with things like Amos and later on the awesome original Blitz Basic (very much still alive and kicking on the PC).

ok but which one i feel like getting all of them
That depends on what language you want to choose.
Also, I recommend *Not* getting them all. They are large downloads,
and you may need additional things (For example, with Microsoft Visual
C++ 2005 express, you will need to also get the Win32 PSDK for Windows
development)
I personally like Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 express. This is assuming,
of course, you choose C++.
hmmm already got them all they cant be that big and.
in any case ive got like 60 gig free on my 320 .
and its full of stuff i dont need so if i need more space
il just delete some stuff well i guess
i willl start with the C++ express 2005
umm what if i have questions though il look through the video tour its pretty intrestesing thanks for this man its awsome
or i dk wht do u reccomend other than C++ 2005

ya guess ur right il stick with the C++ one lol ya right money is the one thing i never have cmon im a sophomore in HS cant get much money thier
my rig proves it all
Celeron 2.4 Socket 478 (half dead) its very low fsb not liek the new celerons with 500 fsb i think its like 128 fsb well i tried oc to 2.8 with stock fan ran into probs
umm 1 gig ddr 400
asus mobo PSx Somthing (478)
Fx5200 256mb ddr3 (almost dead 2)
80GIG Maxtor IDE 5200rpm(already giving me BSOD's)
320 GIG WSD Caviar 7200 rpm
Raidmax Ninja Case Broken left eye umm getting a bit dusty
Stock Cooling on Cpu
1 rear fan and side light up fan on case
PSU Stock 400Wats
As you can tell im broke been trying to upgrade here and their but untill
i inherit some money (which will never happen) il have to make do its why i havent
tried any serious projects Photoshop takes up like 80 Percent when i use it
so imagine some graphic engine lol it would probobly blow up

Actually, I learned Visual Basic first. In my opinion, it's an extremely easy and rather "obvious" language to learn. I recommend learning that and you can find help for that also on MSDN in their library, sample apps., and knowledge base. I say give VB a try at first and then move on to C++. Hope that helps!

..Least you will have a reason to get a new/better one[grin]
lol i wish knowing my parents id end up with a worst one :(
nah im very broke my dream is Alienware man one of those ALX Laptops
or an XPs M170 but alas thier dreams hmm ya C++ is kinda weird i just dont get how
it can do what it does and i dont know what it does
Catch my drift ?
Programming requires a certain level of mental abstraction that isn't always natural. I still remember when I was at school, how I learned the way computer operates before even touching a keyboard. Memory, instructions, program flow, we had simple graphical application (almost a game), made in Basic, that showed you how a computer finds out that 1 + 1 = 2 :) Then a + b = c, and so on and so forth. Got more an more abstract, and was quite fascinating to see all the bits fall into place. I actually just started programming before that, blindly copying source code off books, but didn't really know what was going on :) "So, that's how it works!" kind of moment.
I started even earlier (think I was about 12), using old Thomson TO7 computers and the Logo language, how to draw stuff on screen by entering a set of commands (start drawing, go up 200 pixels, turn left 30 degrees, ...). Weird fun times (the teacher were as clueless as us, barely knew how to operate the loading tapes :)).
It's amazing to see how the whole computing thing evolved. The technology we now take for granted was unthinkable about 20 years ago.

hmm well i was looking at the Vb it seems fairly simple il give it a try because i just dont get C++ at all
ya i have that mental absorbtion thing i wished my school taught me we only have compl applications the teacher is also the network admin he pretty much runs everything. so ya if i had comp classes id be awsome
umm had a question i have MSDN C++ Express installed but i wanted to install Visual Basic on my ipod so i can use it in school when i finish my work in computer class that way i can get some help from my teacher were i need it
but it says i need to install it in the same location as C++ express
so i had few questions
1 if i delete C++ to install VB in my ipod and then reinstall C++ will that work but were can i find the key i got when i registred so i can put it in when i reinstall
2 if i install VB in my ipod as hardrive can i use it on another comp running it from the drive and all or only on this one
3 how can i make the APP protable so i can use whenever i need 2 because class work is easy

The key is practice. Read a bit, practice it until you understand it properly. If you don't understand it properly, go back and read it again.
If you still don't get it, then come and ask. But even with a 'mentor' you'd still better be practicing.
ya but a mentor would be able to explain what its for and what it does and how to do it i can just absorb all that but when i do it on my own all i see is words but ya ill keep on trying this is important to me so i wont give up that easy but im not sure were to start? does MSDN provide a tuturiol im still going through the video
but i wanted more info
any idea how to make the app portable ?
it dosent let me install on removable media so how can i use it elsewere at school my school has deepfreeze so anything u install upon restart it deletes it
