We''ve finally got an actual playable beta demo of our 3d isometric CRPG Prelude to Darkness at www.zero-sum.com Check it out if you will, its hefty at a 19 meg download. I''d love to hear any thoughts/suggestions/performance/compatability issuess, etc... I''m also considering writing some articles/tutorials based on my experiences programming this monster and would love some feedback on what people might be interested in learning more about (other than basic graphic stuff). cheers, -mat mat williams Lead Programmer, Designer Zero Sum Software www.zero-sum.com

well downloaded. Nice proggy! just a little thing: when i entererd the game, I successfully created a party, then the game itself started. But when the really first dialog shows up, the game crashes! maybe it was just my pc.... or maybe not...

That''s a new one. Haven''t seen anyone actually get that far then crash, so far its only been compatability issues which kill it from the start, or the occassional crash much later.
Have you tried again with the default party?

Oh, and I sure appreciate an email from anyone who encounters problems w/system specs and what-not.

Well, i thought that this thread deserves to be put back on top for 2 reasons.

1) Im disappointed in what seems to be a lack of support for your
game in this forum. Far too often i see 20+ threads about some scrolling map demo which basically does...well scrolling (in fact, its because of this i dont post my stupid map engine which scrolls..ill wait till I have something real to show). How many gdnet followers actually get a full game created..not very many, from what ive seen. Not to mention you guys (Prelude team) GAVE AWAY an entire set of graphics for isometric gamers to use! Anyways, I wanted to personally say how impressed i am to see your game coming along and continue the nice work.

2) Second reason, i have a problem running the game, but i just saw your email so i will send you the specifics.

It would be useful if we could get a fps count to report to you. I also figure out how to rotate the camera, but it was after randomly pressing buttons, so maybe if you include it in a readme. Otherwise engine looks great ( i posted on you forum too )

Thanks for all the replies here, on our sight, and via email, it helps tremendously.

There''s a new version on the website which incorporates a lot of the feedback we''ve received. A much improved interface and camera controls really make things look a lot better. And all the quests in the demo are actually completeable and the key highlighting makes finding and talking to people a lot easier.

And finally pressing and holding ''f'' will display two numbers, the current synced framerate (it''s max is around 30fps) and the maximum which could be rendered.

hasta gents,
