I am a fairly seasoned programmer and have recently began working with directx in Visual Basic 6. I am fairly learned in C++ but the ease and simplicity of working in VB suits me for the time being. I have recently begun my journey into the dx world and I understand all of the concepts of it but implementation is what ive recently been having trouble getting my head around... MY REQUEST (in caps for those who didn't read above): I am looking for the source of a very simple slimed down graphics example in directx, whether it be a simple game, preferably something using a tile based system if possible. I need it for the sole purpose of reading through and understand the order of things and a look at a proper implementation of dx graphics. I realize that there are numerous full blown dx engines readily available for languages such as VB but I am only interested in the core concept and something tight clean and well documented would suit me nicely. Looking For: DirectX Graphics (2D in 3D) DirectX Audio, Input and the like not required Preferably something that uses a tile based system as its geared towards what im doing I am very much obliged, and would be very great full for haste in the matter.

This VB title game should get you started.

Hmm not quite what I was looking for, as I said I have a fairly decent background in making games, I just need an example primer of dx in vb. But thank you very much anyways!

EDIT:
I think I have found a suitable example after a long morning of searching, to anyone who is interested it can be downloaded here:

Then it sounds like this is more what you are looking for:
Visual Basic Game Programming for Teens is almost finished. This book focuses on building a complete role-playing game (RPG) using Direct3D surfaces and textures (for 2D graphics). The first 1/4 of the book develops a tile-based scrolling game world, while the next 1/4 focuses on developing a sprite handler using Direct3D textures.
