I am a mighty new here I am from UTAH, North United States of America. I have a few questions about the rules. #1: About my signature #2: Can religious type threads such as about The Holy Bible go here in General Talk type place or no? #3: If I have a question about making my own MegaMan/MegaManX like games where should they be posted? #4: Can created demos/games be posted if so where do they go? Thank you all for your welcomings and helps in advanced!
Can religious links or any links go in signatures?- Jason

Welcome. Take a look at the faq.

#1. You can put links in your signature, but my advice is don't over-do it. Don't turn your signature into a billboard or an overt sales pitch.

#2. The lounge would be the place. The faq says: Do not start a topic that condones illegal activities or activities that tend to incite flame wars, such as: drug use, killing, warez, theft, race, nationality, sex, and religion. A thread about the Bible could be ok but don't be surprised or offended to find yourself confronted by skeptics.

#3. There are several forums for those kinds of questions: For beginners, general programming, game programming, etc.

#4. The "Your Announcements" forum.

Welcome to GDNet. [smile]

To clarify LessBread's answer to #3, you pick the forum that best fits whatever particular issue you're dealing with at the time. So for example, if you want to talk about the actual gameplay and rules of the game you'd want Game Design, while if you want to ask about getting started with developing and find out what you're options are For Beginners would be the right choice. Just take a look at the descriptions of the forums and pick the one you think is the best fit for whatever you'll be asking at the time.

Oh, and one gotcha people sometimes don't notice here: There's a FAQ for the forums as a whole (linked by LessBread, or you can get to it with the FAQ icon in the upper right) and a seperate FAQ for each individual forum (linked as part of the forum description on the forum index as well as above the thread listing when within any given forum. Some of the specific forum FAQs are fairly sparse, but some are extremely informative (actual answers and resources, not neccesarily just rules and whatnot), so it's usually worth taking a look.

Beware with religious threads, because even the most innocuous topics can be pulled off the rails by a couple of people who flame each other for their personal beliefs. If something like that happens, it can often end up as a big flame war and will be shut down by the staff or mods.

But, I think the majority of the people here like a good discussion, whatever the topic may be.

I'm a big fan of small signatures. Just pick whatever text you want to use, maybe give it a color, put it inside tags and start typing.
