I just saw it myself. Looks good.

Hopefully there's a plot with some character development attached to this one.

Really loved the Koyaanisqatsi reference [smile]

The game looks fantastic. Maybe even close to some of dgreen02's work [wink]

Looks pretty, but I didn't really learn anything gameplay-wise. My speculation: I'm expecting the world to encompass much more than just the city shown, and for there to be some sort of multiplayer, among other things.

I can never understand why the GTA games always get advertised with some really cool stylised artwork, then the games themselves end up being this bland semi-realistic style. Wouldn't you much rather play a game that looked like this:

I would; I prefer artistic stylised styles over realism any day.

However I'm not the target market for Grand Theft Auto, and I suspect the teenage to young adult male hardcore gamer market segment prefers the same ol' realistic look that everything aimed for that segment attempts.

Now that the PS3 is plugged in, they better damn well have multiplayer :P I've been ticked for years that Rockstar would never add multiplay to the PC version cause it was always just a straight port from console, which at those times could never have networked multiplayer (although co-op would be nice as well). Looks good though

I agree though I hope you aren't referring to what is becoming the conventional graphical palette in modern games...Yay! More cell shaded tripe! There's not enough of that going around.

I wish SquareEmu would seriously consider redoing Vagrant Story. The art style of the game was so advanced for its time. There was a comic book style premise with fully functional 3d environments. The PSX wasn't powerful enough to showcase this style properly but it was clear enough to see that the visual premise in the game was nothing short of groundbreaking.

Yea, so how many people remember Vagrant Story? ;)
I think GTA is setting a graphical bar for games of similar make. The series is doing well so why change a "good" thing? Its a double edged sword. It looks good, but who cares? We've already seen it. As the series continues NOT to change other companies may try to steal the look of the game and pass it off as their own, furthering bland graphics which are neither realistic, nor fun to look at.

Bollocks! I really like GAMECOCK, (The indie game developer) and look to such companies to present deviations to what is becoming standard boring practice. It seems like those guys (GAMECOCK) are really trying to do something different. Unfortunately as Psychonauts showed us, artistic integrity isn't a quality that a wide following is interested in appreciating.

Environments look gorgeous.
Characters aren't so hot.
Still no idea if they are going to change up the gameplay at all.

So it's basically just confirmation of what I already knew, which isn't cause for much excitement. But, it's hardly a bad thing either.

I thought they looked pretty crappy. Did you see those poorly billboarded trees?

To be honest, I am not impressed. Sure, the graphics look good, but does it demonstrate anything different in the gameplay department? I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the gameplay at this point, but it looks to me like another cookie-cutter game - same gameplay as the last generation, just better graphics.

I'd say something is wrong with the gameplay. It's boring as hell. It's like playing an MMORPG without the reward of levelling up or playing with friends online.

It's a teaser. It showed no gameplay. What exactly is making you think it's "another cookie-cutter game"?

Totally the truth, except I wouldn't say most MMORPG's are much better.

I'm excited. Every time a new GTA comes out I'm always impressed with just the sheer size of the game (especially GTA:SA, with multiple cities), and I for one think they are a blast to play. I can spend hours running around not actually accomplishing anything, just doing fun stuff. It's the closest thing I've played to a go anywhere do anything kind of game. I did manage to beat Vice City (the only one I actually own), however, because even I can only ramp hookers into the ocean for so long :).

Has anyone tried Multi-Theft Auto for SA? It's...interesting, the cops and robbers is pretty fun anyway.

Yeah, I too think it's pretty weak to insult the gameplay based entirely on assumptions.

I think the trailer is pretty impressive. Graphically I think it's pretty strong considering what's required of a GTA game and there seems to be a lot of variety in pedestrians (looks like NPCs might be able to have different clothes) and whatnot. It would be nice to know more about the gameplay, but I think we can expect a good story and various additions added on to the typical sandbox GTA gameplay which will also be enhanced by tech such as Euphoria.

It was kind of fun to watch certain things in the trailer and think "dgreen02's doing that better in Gang War" :p.

Gameplay?

It's GTA. This one will be incremental changes from the last, nothing more. The core gameplay will be the same that it's been for the last three versions, and that's why people are so interested. I'm not buying the 4th entry in a series because I want to play something completely different from the last three. The gameplay is staying the same, and it should.

Exactly. There's no reason to change the gameplay millions already find fun. Change for the sake of change is ridiculous. Football doesn't change it's core rules every decade to stay "next-gen."

Well there is that, but if thats the case why use the cartoony graphics to advertise it? Personally I wouldn't mind it either way, but it's the mismatch between advertising/box art and actual in-game that confuses me.
