So I am applying to transfer to University of Colorado. But I cant figure out what to write for my essay. Its technically optional, but I figure I will write something anyway. They have a specific question. Here is the link to the information link. As you can see, the question for the personal essay is one of those things that requires writing a heaping pile of bullshit. I am used to doing that from other schools, but this one is something special, and i just cant think of what to write. Anyone have any ideas for writing this?

Well, it's asking about how you've dealt with people that you have interacted with in your life.

I think they are intending to find out how you react to conflict.

Of course, I'm probably wrong :D

Hmm. They say the essay is optional, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you can skip it. I suspect that they are interested in getting a writing sample from you. It seems kind of silly to ask you to explain how their creed has played out in your life when that's probably the first time you've been exposed to it. Perhaps this is one way they have of prompting you to think about the reasons why you want to transfer to that school. Both questions seem geared to get you to write about yourself. The first is more structured the second more free form - but both are about you. The structured option is probably easier to deal with.

Tell me about how in the past you've acted with honor, integrity, and accountability in your interactions with students, faculty, staff, and neighbors.

Tell me about how in the past you've respected the rights of others and accepted their differences.

Tell me about how in the past you've contributed to the greater good of your community.

Tell me about how in the future you'll continue to do these same things.

In order to tell me these things, you'll also need to tell me what those various words mean to you - honor, integrity, accountability etc. A dictionary can be helpful, but I don't think you want to define those words so much as to illustrate their meaning with examples of your actions. For example, honor: honesty, fairness, or integrity in one's beliefs and actions. Tell me about a time when you had to confront a situation where your honesty was tested or where you were called on to adjudicate some conflict or where you were entrusted with the care of something valuable or where you stuck to your principles.

When I say "tell me" I don't really mean "tell me", I just posed those questions that way to spur you to think about the creed as a set of questions rather than an assertion of belief.

Personally, I would answer the second question - I find the first one strange, considering that nobody lives a life according to that exact creed before actually attending CU-B. That said, you can certainly point out parts of your life that have (incidentally) followed the creed, and use the more structured version of question 1 by LB to write the essay.

The second option allows you to write about most any event or choice you've experienced that dealt with school in some way. I can't help you with anything specific, because my stories would likely not be the same as yours [smile].
