Alright, first off, I know NOTHING about SQL in general. I installed it so I could use OnTIme 2007 free edition. Now the damn SQL server instane is using 100+mb a ram. since im on a laptop, this is not cool. This implise that I can throttle it to 16mb, which would be awesome, but it doesn't give the start up params necessary to accomplish this. Can anyone help me out? Cheers

Well if you only need to use it every now and then set sqlserver to start up manually instead of automatically.
That's what I do since I have sql database that is 3.5GB in size and eats up all my memory when I start it up so I only turn it on when I need it.

I still don't want it using up 100+mb of ram every time I code. And its SLOW to start up too. I'd rather just limit it to 16mb, then just let it run.

Use Server Management Studio to change the setting.

Does it work for the SQL server 2005 standard edition (the one off MSDNAA)? Or do i have to install it from the standard ISO I downloaded?

Right-click on the instance of SQL Server in question, choose 'Properties,' choose 'Memory,' change 'Maximum Server Memory.'
