Hello to all of you. I recently purchased Borland builderX "sams Teach yourself C++ in 24 hours" I installed the Borland builderX and wrote a few programs which were in the book, they all worked as described. I then purchased a copy of Sams "teach yourself game programming in 24 hrs" which contains a much older version of the Borland compiler 5.5. When I tried to install the compiler, it wouldn't work (maybe because of the Builder X) It seems that I need some resource files off of the much older cd-rom in order for my app to work in Builder X. The files included with borland 5.5 etc Teach yourself game programming in 24 hours (Sams)are stored in a file on the cd-rom so I copied the files to mydocs, how do I now link these files to the program that I wrote in Borland builderX, is it merely a link problem, or something bigger? Thanks

What happens when you try to compile and link the projects?
Are you compiling it "as a Windows program", and linking the approprate libraries?
What errors do you get?

The resource files (*.rc) need to be compilied as resource scripts (*.res)
files before you can link them.

Hello thanks for the reply

Its a program called skeleton, and it creates a normal "window" with a few icons.

(file type in brackets)

so far I have got skeleton cbx.(EXE)
skeleton .exe
skeleton.h (h)
skeleton.ccp (c++)
Resource.h (h)
skeleton.rc (Rc)

the program compiles fine until the end when I get these messages

Error Skeleton.rc 9 13: Cannot open file: IDI_SKELETON

BRCC32 exited with error code: 20018
Build cancelled due to errors

Im a bit stuck as I am very new to all of this.

Error Skeleton.rc 9 13: Cannot open file: IDI_SKELETON

IDI_SKELETON was not a file, it is a resource identifier.

Insure Skeleton.rc *Only* includes Skeleton.h. IDI_SKELETON should
be defined in Skeleton.h.

If it is, can you please post the relivant code for Resource.rc and
Resource.h?

(I used to have that book, so I kind of know whats in it[smile])
