Well I just got Power Render and have mainly been fiddling around with the landscape studio. I was wondering if its possible to make certain areas different "climate zones" and have different textures/particle effects to go with it? For example snowy areas would have snow on the ground with snow falling but I don''t want this on the whole map..just in certain areas. Desert, volcanic, tropical, etc. are things I would like to put on there. On a side note I have VC++ 5.0 and I know it says v.6 is required...is this why I have problems when trying to compile the "myexample" tutorial? Believe its having some sort of problem with dinput.h and I have DX8SDK. Thanks, Jason Salmans Rendar

You can specify different ranges when using the texture generator. You could reuse these ranges for other purposes like making particle effects.

Another thing that I want to add is vegetation maps. This will be a color coded bitmap that matches up with the heightfield. You paint colored regions on the bitmap and the engine will be able to create trees and vegetation based on it. You could extend this idea to include particle effects depending on the color where the player is.

I believe VC 5 will work fine, although I haven''t tried it with DX8 before. Make sure you have the include paths set up correctly and the DX8 sdk paths are at the top of the list.

yes, this will be good.

will this map be exported and used in the engine too.
we need to know whether the character has stepped into grass patches, so that footstep sound changes.

can we define different levels ourselves ?

i need to paint some places where the character cannot go, or he will slide down if he tries.

So the way to do the different regions would be to add the regions in the texture map the landscape uses then add the particle effects? Is there any plan in the future to add reat-time texture manipulation inside the landscape studio?
