OK, I know dave is probably going to jump on this one, but here it goes... (note, any arguments, and I bet you TA$1337 that this gets killed) Myself, and others have noticed a trend that a great deal of computer people (programers, web-developers, etc) are neo-pagans, or some related belief system. Now, I am wondering, do you think that this observation is accurate? And my greater question is what do you think came first for most of these people, being pagan, or being a computer person? Just out of curiosity, what do you call a pagan? anyone who doesn't follow your own religion or someone who follows a religion other than yours? - For the majority of this world's population anybody will be a pagan...

You know, I never wanted to be a programmer...

I thought that pagans had to worship idols, which I don''t do...

Alex, OK, I refer people who are say wiccan and simmilar religions. For lack of a better way of explaining myself, nature religions. Anyone care to better that explination?

SH: I sure hope you are kidding...

I don''t know what you hope I''m kidding about
Technically, pagans don''t by definition have to practice idolatry or polytheism, but most do (i.e. ancient Romans.) The primary entry in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is basically "heathen", which itself, primarily, means "a non-Christian".

From the number of threads (read: flame wars) on religion that have been started and closed in the Lounge over the past year or so, I''d say that generalizing programmers'' religious preferences is not going to be very accurate.

Most programmers are pagans? Where did you get this info?

Atheists or agnostics I''d believe, but pagans? Most programming and tech-people I know think wicca/paganism/etc. is retarded...Who have you been talking to?

I''m kind of agnostic/athiestic myself (still trying to decide which at the moment ), but I know people who are pagan (as in wiccan). BTW: furby100, try not to be so closed minded.

Are you actually being serious Andrew or was it a sort of tongue in cheak humour you''re trying for here. What i first thought you meant was that programmers are a sacrificial lot of people or that they had that sort of rigid mentality. *shrug*

Guess what people... I have come to the belief that Game Developers or Programmers and artists etc. either follow a religion or (here''s the really clever part) don''t follow a religion...

OK... So that was a funny But here is what I have come to the conclusion on. People who have read far too many fantasy novels and write their own fantasy games believe in magic. Anybody who reads fantasy novels or writes fantasy games and DOESN''T believe in magic is a person who does not fully entrust a book as their world or can not understand a magical game world in such a way as to make it worthwhile for players.. Not that some who do believe in magic can..

Now... Am I being an idiot or am I just a Pagan?

well one thing that i know about wiccans is that they are very discreet( at the least the ones here), i doubt that one will appear here and post "hey i´m a wiccan!!! look at me!!"

and they aren''t only in computer areas... they are everywhere... belive me... everyone know a wiccan and don''t make any idea of it...

MOTHERSHIP!!! hahaha! very funny! now take me outta here!!!!!

All of a sudden Andrew thinks everyone is crazy. He must be desensitized immediately! The only thing we can do is link him to an extremely offensive web site.
