I recently built a site using hosting from SiteGround.com. I've noticed that when I use their web-based e-mail login, and I send an e-mail to another user at my domain, the timestamp is off by an hour. I'm wondering who sets the timestamp: the sender or the receiver? Also, I've been looking for a way to change the default timezone for e-mail at my domain but I haven't been able to find it. I went though their help but it's not listed anywhere. Any insight into this is greatly appreciated. [Edited by - gamechampionx on June 27, 2007 2:20:58 PM]

Email timestamps have time zone information in them. Most email clients convert the timestamp to local time for display. This is reasonable.

Could you paste the raw email headers?

If the time appears wrong, it's probably because the server clock is incorrect. Try logging on in the shell to check it. Alternatively, contact your systems admin and/or raise a ticket through their support system.

I assume the timestamps on your email from your development system are correct?

If you use thunderbird, press Ctrl+U when the message is selected. For other e-mail programs I have no clue. The headers are the part that contains the from, to, subject, etcetera. We'd like to see them as they were sent (the sourcecode of the e-mail).

OK, I figured out what the story is.

I'm in Eastern Standard Time but the server is in Central Time.

I talked to SiteGround support about this, and they say that in order to adjust the timezone, I need to use a client program and not the web-based e-mail.

Bummer.
