Hi, I''m trying to make some transparent textures, and I''m having problems doing it in Photoshop and Paintshop. Can anyone recommend some better software thats suited for creating transparent textures? I''d like to be able to save in .tga or .png format. Thanks, IceGod

Hi,

Well, I''m an extreme newbie with photoshop, can you point me to some tutorials or explain to me how to make transparent textures?

If you want basic all-or-nothing transparency you can just create a 24-bit RGB texture map and then in your texture load function create a 32-bit RGBA texture and map all pixels of a certain colour (ie: those which are black) to have alpha of 0, setting all other pixels to alpha 1, and then use alpha testing when you draw it.

If you want to blend the thing with varying levels of transparency you''re going to have to work out how to use photoshop and use alpha blending.

In photoshop there''s this layers selection thing (a toolbar). Click to the channels section of it, create a new channel (this will be the alpha channel), paint it in grey scale (white opaque, black transparent), save in a format that supports alpha channels, such as TGA or PNG.
