Dead Pixels!

Original Post
...or stuck, or hot, or whatever that particular type is called. I've gotten a couple LCD's as a solution to my CRT problem a post ago, and there is a pixel that 'goes in and out' from being dead and alive. I already intend to return it as Best Buy has a 14 days no-questions-asked policy (exactly the reason I bought it from there). These dead pixel policies are insane! Some companies allow 8 or more dead pixels before it's defective. I'm curious, how many dead pixels do you allow? I really want to know if there is anyone here who would allow more than 1 and 'not care'.
For some reason, when I first looked at the thread title I thought this was going to be about corpses drawn in pixel art...

Zero. When I buy a screen, then I expect the entire pixel matrix to work flawlessly. Without exceptions. Even a single dead pixel is a defect, whether it is in the (0,0) corner or in the very center of the screen.
A set of action class lawsuits against TFT manufacturers over their dead pixel policies is long overdue.

Zero as well. Any single defect would warrant a return in my eyes. Lets just hope I don't need to return a monitor ever, as I would happily raise hell if a shop refused to refund me.

Exactly what I did. Bought a 19" for my dad and it had one dead pixel. Returned to the shop and wanted to exchange it for another one and told them it was because it was a dead pixel. They refused. I raised some hell, then remembered the shop's general 7 day refund policy. The staff couldn't refuse me that. Took the money and walked out.
Use this, it won't fix dead pixels but it does help with stuck and burned in pixels. i've used it on a few occasions with success each time.

I could deal with one if it was one of the corner pixels.
I have a dead pixel near the lower left corner of my screen, and its not too bad, although sometimes I do try to clean it off only to realize its a dead pixel. I sent in a monitor with dead pixels on it to get a replacement, and I up getting multiple replacements and each of them had dead pixels on them. I stopped when I got one where the dead pixel wasn't in such a bad spot. Refurbished goods suck.
I see dead pixels...
I have a dead pixel on my PSP. Bottom middle. It's not so bad, because the display has a reasonably high DPI.
But for monitors? I wouldn't buy anything that didn't have a zero-dead-pixel replacement policy. I had a single dead pixel about an two inches in from the top-left corner on my first LCD. Got it replaced very quickly.
But - do be sure to carefully test when you get your monitor. That one went unnoticed for up to two weeks, due to my choice of wallpaper.

Oh lawd, are those some dead pixels?!
My first LCD had like 4 dead pixels, all in the middle of the screen. They didn't want to replace it, since they sold it to me telling "Dead pixels are a rarity, no need to buy an extra warranty".
I just took it back the next with another guy, said it had a lot of static and that I wanted a DVI one. He swapped them around and my new monitor had zero dead pixels. Problem solved.
I accept NO dead pixels whatsoever, period.

No dead pixels on my nice new 22 inch widescreen monitor.[cool]
My monitor at work has one pixel that shows as green when it should be white, so I suspect that this one pixel has broken red and blue components. Took a few weeks to notice it.
You guys do realise that a zero dead pixel policy pushes prices up right?
Fortunately there are plenty of people with less than perfect eyesight that probably wouldn't notice and proably wouldn't care. If you're not one of them then by all means get a replacement if you can.

when i was younger i perhaps would of cared but now i dont ( ive had my current monitor, first lcd ever since 6 months (except for a laptop), + i havent even checked )
i find the flyshit on the screen, much worse (winter now so thats not so much of a problem), a single turd prolly covers a 4x4 grid of pixels.

Damn, it didnt work for me. I have a stuck green pixel around the middle of my 19", which I received as a gift. Most of the time I cannot even find it. However, when playing games which are really dark, it can get distracting. You know how FPS love dark rooms...
If you bought the screen on a credit card, could you use the credit card extra customer protection?
