I got the Black Art of 3D game programming book and my compiler is not working, is there a good protected mode Dos Compiler available, I heard Watcom had a good one but they''ve gone out of business or something. I know Lamothe used Borland and Microsoft compilers, does anyone know which versions of these compilers he used, if so, do you know if they''re still available? Thanks in advance.

You might want to check out DJGPP. I''m not familiar with it, so I couldn''t tell you anything about it.

The people (I forget their name) that made Watcom didn''t go out of business, they just stopped producing their C/C++ compiler. They still make a Fortran compiler, and some other stuff .

DJGPP is an excellent compiler. I used it to write a software 3D engine a while ago, and I recommend it lots. Apparently id wrote Quake with it. If you get it, make sure you get the RawHide (or is it hyde - I forget) editor with it. It looks and feels just like a Borland Turbo C++ editor, but is better.
