Hi Have a look a this one: http://developer.download.nvidia.com/SDK/10/direct3d/Source/Lightning/doc/lightning_doc.pdf I have not tried to run it but as I can tell from the screenshot it's not as good as the old one from NV using register combiners. I'm still interested to know if there's any detailed document that explains either techniques. Thanks.

Looks pretty cool to me. Can't say I remember the register combiner effects, but why were they any better? Also, I think you'll find that it's the geometry-space manipulation (being almost entirely GPU-based) that's the interesting part here - completely offloading the work from the CPU which wasn't possible in previous generations.

I was thinking about implementing tree rendering using L-Systems and a GS, strikes me that there are a lot of very cool things to be done in this field (especially organic rendering).

The individual techniques aren't too hard to understand - there are various documents available online. I guess you'll just have to download Nvidia's DX10 SDK to see how they blended everything together in practice.
