MDX VertexFormatCaps bug?

I just noticed that the SupportsTextureCoordinateCountMask property of the VertexFormatCaps structure returns a boolean value in Managed Direct3D 9 (1.0.2902.0). In XNA, the property is called NumberSimultaneousTextureCoordinates and returns a short. In unmanaged Direct3D, the low word of FVFCaps in the D3DCAPS structure is masked to get D3DFVFCAPS_TEXCOORDCOUNTMASK (XNA appears to do the same thing in the disassembled IL). So, I'm wondering if this is a bug? More specifically, is it a *known* bug or am I the first to spot it? Unless I'm missing something, it's currently impossible to get the total number of texture coordinate sets that the device can simultaneously use for multiple texture blending in MDX.

In MDX the Caps structure contains a MaxSimultaneousTextures property.
