I've recently discovered that a game I play online sends a list of processes currently running on my computer to the server (supposedly to crack down on people macroing and the like). I've also seen one of the developers making fun of a player because of what they had open. I was wondering if this is a breach of privacy, and if so, would like to know if anyone has any links to articles stating this. What's your opinion of games doing this?

I don't know if it's legal but it does kinda creep me out. Using the information to prevent cheating is one thing but using it to make fun of someone who is playing your game is F'ed up. I would say I'm against it.

I'm sure that wasn't the intended intention of the company when they set that system up. I'd send an email to someone in the company and complain about that incident. Someone abusing their given power in that is going to ruin the game for everyone and that person should be removed from that position.

At least that's my $.02

What are they making fun of? Let me guess, MS software?

Legal or not, the guy is a loser and not suitable for a position of responsibility.

Theres probably a disclaimer about it in the EULA you agreeded to on install. Whether that makes it legal (or moral) is an entirely different matter though...

In this case, it doesn't matter. A company employee humiliated someone publicly using the information obtained from their program.

The victim should bring a lawsuit.

Out of curiosity, what game are we talking about?
