I infer that using glTexGen is inherently not very efficient due to the generation of texture vertices, but I''d like to know if anyone knows about the efficiency of its various modes. I''m writing an app that I need to use glTexGen for, but using GL_OBJECT_LINEAR or GL_EYE_LINEAR does not affect my result. Which should I use in order to optimize my code?

Did you enable it?

glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_GEN_S);
glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_GEN_T);

I also did my environment mapping and object-linear mapping myself by simply calculating the texcoords myself. I guess you can do it faster in software rendering yourself, but hardware can support these functions...

check the nvidia geforce opengl performance FAQ. it has a comparison of the various methods which is prolly applicable for most cards.

Do you have a link to that FAQ? I digged one up that linked to Nvidia''s website, but the link is broken, as the report dates back to January 2000.
