I'm having a problem with my LAN. For some reason whenever I try to open a webpage (in IE or firefox) I get the error "can't find server". But when I try in Linux (fedora) it works fine. So it must be some problem with windows. What problem would give me that error? Was a setting in the firewall changed? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Which DNS are you using?

EDIT: Try typing in a public IP address such as 66.230.200.100 (one of wikipedia's).

i'm assuming you've already double checked your network device's drivers are functioning properly in windows?

jarrod: how do I check that?
If it helps I tried to ping my IP address and it timed out. But when I pinged the default gateway it worked. What does that mean?
Thanks.

Clarification: Do you have one machine that dualboots with both Windows and Linux, or two separate machines? If its two separate machines, I'd say its hardware/drivers.

Although this probably won't work, I know at my Uni's techsupport, having somebody /release and then /renew via the ipconfig command would often times fix any internet problems. Just a suggestion. :/

First thing I would check are the proxy settings in your browser.. chances are that it could be set but have been mistyped. This proxy setting wouldn't carry over to Linux which exlpains why it works fine in Linux but not Windows.

It could be other things, but I would suspect that is the most simple answer.

Hope that helps,
cheers,

This sounds like a question to ask at techzonez.
