First off let me tell you there are two ray-ing methods. first of all you can raytrace, this means that you have a 2 dimensional "space" defined. this could be just a bitmap of some sort. This space will define the location of a wall for instance. The idea is that the position of your view point will be somewhere within this space, allong with the view direction. if you then also define a view angle your camera set up will be complete, you can then follow a line in this space for every pixel on your camera screen beginning in the camera and then ending when ever you hit a wall or clear the space. when you hit a wall you can scale it acording to depth and put it on the screen. this works in 2d, if you do it in 3d you have a raycaster.

I know this probably doesn''t make loads of sens right now but try to find some raytracing, onece you do this raycasting is easy. oh and I might have som of the facts wrong please excuse me for this if I did.
