I don't have any metal released in the last 10-15 years that I can really recommend, but some general suggestions:
* Dream Theater
* Nightwish
* Ozzy
* Iron Maiden
* Judas Priest
* Pantera
* Joe Satriani
* Steve Vai
* Megadeth
* Motley Crue

Wow, man. Metal is one of the broadest music genres, in my opinion. Please specify if possible.

For example; do you want some Death Metal? Dissection is pretty damn nice, except they aren't active anylonger(as of 2006).

Or maybe a bit more mainstream metal is what you are after? Then you have loads; Metallica, In Flames, Rammstein etc etc!

There are metal and there are rock. There are no sub-categories. Thats some stupid newage idea that some people that put a guitarr into the hands of Depeche Mode made up. "uh.. this guitarr makes it sound like metal! Quick! We have to come up with some new name for it or people will start to call us hardrockers and we will have to start getting dressed in jeans jackets!".

As an old metal fan there are some distinctions I can live with, such as speed and trash. But the new categories are just stupid and comes in packs of ten every year. What about rapmetal for example, where some morons are trying to mix rap and metal and sell it as some new thing. Completly disregarding Anthrax for example that did some excellent work with Public Enemy. Yet they did not have to degrade themselves to call it "Rapmetal".

Death-, doom-, black-metal. Seriously. :|

You got rock: Elvis, Beatles, Jerry Lee, U2, Dire Straits etc.
and you got heavy-metal (hard rock): Black Sabbath, Iron maiden, Metallica, Tiamat (early years atleast), Death, Decide, Pantera etc.

And some that goes inbetween, Motörhead, Led Zeppelin, Status Quo etc.

SOme good rock/metal:
- Metallica ( Nice trash back in the days, easy listening nowdays )
- Iron Maiden ( Maiden needs no presentation )
- Accept ( Trash as its best. Not by a longshot beethoven, but down to earth)
- Motörhead ( This is rock at its peak. I swear you can smell the diesel)
- Led Zeppelin ( Excellent musically, some great hits )
- Running Wild (one of them German 80-ies group with a sence of humour)
- Black Sabbath ( Ozzy. )
- Ozzy Osbourne ( Ozzy. )
- Three T's ( Tiamat, Therion, Tristania, three scandinavian bands that are all excellent, if you like Nightwish, you'll get the same from these, except better)

PS. There is no good metal being done anymore. It stopped in the mid 90ies.

I'm bumping this thread, because I want more metal too.
