Hi guys, I've been using these two words a lot lately in texts. Now the problem is that I personally prefer the word module for things like game engine modules such as Input/Output, Netwrking. However only using the word module for any modular aspect of the software makes things confusing for readers. I therefore ask you guys which word you personally prefer and whether they have a slightly different meaning to you.

My dictionary says that a module is
Quote:

a separable component, frequently one that is interchangeable with others, for assembly into units of differing size, complexity, or function.

Whilst, component is
Quote:
a constituent part; element; ingredient.

I tend to intuitively agree with this definition. I consider module a subset of component. The Input/Output component of a game engine may or may not be a module depending on if the engine is modular.
Best regards, Omid

I have to agree. Thanks for the feedback I really should take the definition more literally. I suppose it will probably be more confusing if I start talking about interchangable components.
