I am currently learing Win32, but my friend says why learn Win32 when Visual Basic is easier. What are the pros and cons of the two? Thanks. ----------------------------- "There are ones that say they can and there are those who actually do." "...u can not learn programming in a class, you have to learn it on your own." Gee ... and I always thought that a VB app was still a Win32 app

Win32 is an operating system and Visual Basic is a sort of basic compiler.

Avoid VB like the plague if you want any of the following: cross-platform support (at all), near optimal runtime performance, many free alternative compilers (there''s only one VB compiler that I know of, and MS made it), and so much more (hint: stick with C/C++ ).

Yeah, I guess you''re correct. I assumed that Kylix was only a Delphi port to Linux, but it does kind of do VB now that I look at it. Anyway, I don''t like VB very much (Delphi is better, but I''m not much of a fan of it either), in case someone hasn''t noticed...

Visual Basic is really good for business logic applications. You can code things quickly...but the run-time speed leaves something to be desired. VB.NET will solve a few of the issue''s VB 6 has...mainly Object Oriented issues, speed, and portability.

If you want to eventually work in the game development community you should probably stick with C++.

BTW you can use win32 API with VB.
