do you know any engine programming tutorials?

i have searched for them but never found any tutorials that actually walk you through the steps of programming your own engine. the ones i did find started off with now that you have programmed the core of the engine lets talk about the attributes and that''s plain stupid. if you know any tutorials on the subject please direct me (and others) to it. your time is greatly thanked.
