Ocean Legacy Volunteer Group Team name only, not registered. Ocean Legacy's Promotional Flashgame (tentative): Overfish Extreme! Brief Description We're a small group of indie developers, having volunteered to help the organisation Ocean Legacy by creating a promotional flashgame with the purpose of promoting their online campaign against overfishing. The Concept In short, the game is about a whale doing it's best to stay alive, avoiding the many dangers presented by the humans and their needlessly efficient technology. A short version of the (early) concept is described here, while the concept in full will soon be viewable on our website (work in progress). Target aim As said already, the purpose of this game is to effectively spread the word about Ocean Legacy and it's campaign. With a flashgame we could create something quick yet appealing. Some of the goals for the game is to make it as addictive as possible, as we will encourage people to compete with their friends for a high highscore. The target aim for this kind of game is basically anyone who's got a few minutes to kill and enjoys a game with a challenge. Compensation Hey, we're trying to make sure you can still eat fish in 40 years from now; don't expect to get paid for such a favor, hehe. Well yeah, we're all in this project as volunteers, and don't want anyone to join with any different expectations. Besides a very good deed, this is a nice simple project that will get you some kind words from Ocean Legacy for your kind cooperation to put on your resumé. Technology Our programmer, Phyxx, is using Flex to create this game. Technical questions should be directed to him. Talent Needed
Quote:
This project now stands or falls depending on whether or not we get 1 or 2 competent graphic artists to help us out, seeing as we already have everything else needed to make this game, not to mention it's already well into progress. Preferrably we'd like to have only one artist capable of creating all of the graphics that needs doing. Of course, it would also be a big plus to have done art for flash games before. See here to see what kind of graphics we need.
- At the time being, all positions are filled. At some later point in our progress however, one or two small positions might open up. So by all means, do keep an eye on this thread if you're still interested. Contact Should you be interested in this project, simply PM me through this website. Should you be accepted then I'll give you any additional contactinfo you need in order to stay in touch with me and the rest of the team. Team Structure Lead Programmer - Matthew Casperson, aka Phyxx Concept Writer - Erlend S. Heggen, aka Sadr, with the kind help of Joseph Gordon (aka Ocean Legacy) and his co-workers. Audio Artists - Nathan Madsen (aka nsmadsen) doing SFX & Charlotte McMillian as composer. Previous Work by Team Seeing as this is a short-term engagement for a good cause, there is no previous work applicable for this team. There is no need to worry about incompetence however, as we all have plenty of personal achievements to show for. You don't have to take my word for it, just do the research. Website Wiki - This wiki acts as our online concept. More of a website is far from necessary. Ocean Legacy - This website represents everything this project is working for, and it is also the site we will be attempting to direct more traffic to by putting links in the game. Feedback Comments on the concept can go to this thread in the game design section of GD. Besides that, any comments are appreciated. [Edited by - Sadr on October 3, 2007 6:14:46 PM]

I really hope more people get interested in this project! Not only is this project for a great cause, it is a much more realistic goal than the typical indie MMO approach. We already have several very talented industry professionals on board, who are working for free because they (like me) feel this is a great cause and more than worthy of our time and energy.

This is a great opportunity for networking within the team, getting some more exposure and industry credit and doing something for our planet. Now, how is that NOT a great situation! It is certainly more appealling than making yet another WOW 3 MMORPG knock off!

So, if you're graphically inclined, please consider this project.

Come on guys, this one is not only for a good cause, but it would make an excellent resume piece for anyone who contributes towards it.

Your link to example images (I assume? "See here to see what kind of graphics we need.") isn't working.

Re. Sephyx:
Thanks for your PM; I've PMed you back. We'll be keeping this recruiting thread active for a week or so depending on how many applicants there are, and then we'll see how many and who are the most suitable for the job. Thanks for applying!

Re. nsmadsen:
What you say is very true, and I also tried to express that in the main post. This project is probably one of the projects most likely to finish around here, not to mention it's for a good cause, which gives it a bigger purpose as well as having some "charity"-kind of work to put on your portfolio.

Re. jbadams
Thanks for the support. The GD community has been nothing but helpful, and constructing a team has been a walk in the park so far. Hopefully this trend will reappear now that we start looking for a visual artist.

Re. Logodae
Thanks for notifying me. It should be fixed now, and I've restructured the wiki a bit as well. If you're still interested in helping us out, then you should have a look at the (now fixed) link to the graphical tasks and see if you can be of assisstance.

I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions and interest in this project, and I'm hoping to see more artists volunteer to help us achieve the rather high graphical quality we're hoping for.

This may not be the place for it, but you might think about seeing if the game could be included in vBulletin-based arcades. I haven't any experience with making a game integrate with it, but that could potentially open up thousands of sites that would host it.

- I've forwarded this to Phyxx, our lead programmer, but this perticular topic has yet to be discussed.

In other news:

We have found our graphics artist!

A big thanks to all of those who applied (you should have received a PM from me now). From the looks of it, our artist will be able to take care of everything art-related, but should he get overwhelmed then we might seek help among those of you who's help is not needed at the time being. Should the time come then we hope you'll be ready.

With the last piece of the team-puzzle in place, the project is now setting full speed ahead, and you should start seeing some major progress very shortly. This thread will stay open as we might need some additional help at a later point.

Good luck with the project, sounds cool. If you later need more people, I suggest starting a new thread to make it clearer waht's going on. You can always provide a link to this one.

Look forward to seeing something in the "Announcements" forum in the future.
