Ok. Obviously my original plan is not going to work in a moderated forum. I am going to drop my act and explain what I was doing, and it had already worked. My only goal was really to get an audience quickly, and someone who was willing to go over the game from beginning to end. I had just achieved that when you shut me down. I understand how “arrogant” you believe that I am, but that was intentional as I had said at one point. I needed to draw attention to this, and have the experience in online forums to weather the storm (just not moderated ones). Shou had just begun to go over the game with me, and I was just beginning to turn the thread into being about that. My “arrogance” really is not arrogance. I did not say that my one job in the industry meant I should be worshiped as a god. As I’ve been saying all alone, I’ve been designing games for about 25 years. I really have. And I am not saying that means that I am better than anyone, either. I have not said any of these things, other people keep saying them, not me. All I did was speak like someone who has been designing games for 25 years, and I have been. That is not “arrogance”. As for my “experience” that so many keep harping on, that really is the heart of the matter of why I am ignored. The experience that I have is not counted as being worth anything by people in the computer game industry. That’s the whole reason I’ve wound up here. I mean… I single-handedly revolutionized team sports games with IKNFL (I really did, look into it), but that doesn’t count for anything because I wasn’t working at Sierra at the time. 25 years of almost non-stop creating games and game design documents… also not relevant. And, of course, there was nothing to be learned about game design from the SFB Staff. I know… Is everyone saying that unless a person is “anointed” by the computer game industry, they cannot possibly be a game designer? That seems to be the attitude. I really have been designing games and simulations for about 25 years, so you’ll just have to excuse me if I speak as though I have. Or ban me for it, but I really don’t understand that. Now, if the moderators will allow it, and if Shou is still willing, I would very much like to go over the game with Shou in this thread. If any moderators would like to speak too me privately feel free to send me an e-mail and I will be happy to discuss any issue you like. -- Marc Michalik (A.K.A. Are you begging to be banned? When two threads with the same name get locked, and you start a third, chances are it is going to be locked as well. Obviously a mod or two isn't happy with the direction your threads are taking. Take a hint [wink]

Besides repeatedly touting how great of a designer you are with how much "experience" you have, I don't really understand the point to these threads. Really, everyone understood you the first time when you said
"25 years of experience as a designer". Heck, in your last post alone you said it three times, let alone how many times you've said it in the last two threads.

You think Pirate Dawn is revolutionary, but most of us don't. It happens all the time. Sometimes you think something is spot on and well, it takes others telling you otherwise to bring you back down to earth. A good designer knows how critical feedback is.

This is another thing you have said over and over and over again. Why are we supposed to care and how is this statement supposed to not come across as arrogant?

I hate coming across as rude or demeaning, but you're saying the same things over and over again, without ever saying what about Pirate Dawn is actually revolutionary. Everything you have brought up thus far just doesn't seem particularly revolutionary.

So far, this thread does not belong in the Game Design forum.

You haven't? But you say things like this (from an earlier thread):
Quote:
These people can't resist my work, I give them "Gold Fever".
PROTIP: Obviously they CAN resist your work - or you'd maybe have been hired at more than one job in the industry.

No, I don't think it is. If you can't figure out the truth by now, you never will.

If there was a team involved, you didn't single-handedly anything. I looked it up in my gut.

Seriously, the last TWO times your post has been closed, it's been because you create a post that has started with you bitching about the industry and whatever. This is your third. I expect it to be closed VERY SOON now.

Oh my. If you, Marc, are truly as experienced and learned as you like to think you are then explain something to me: how, despite my attempts, do I continually read your text as if an aspiring 18-year-old wrote it? I have dealt with a lot of inane postings and annoying users in the past but, yet, your replies are constantly surpassing even my highest expectations for ignorance and arrogance.

Oh please, other than the context, this rant could be straight from a Disney channel sitcom where the middle child complains to his parents about how no one "understands" him or gives him consideration because he's not of a certain age/lineage/social status. If you've hit a rough patch in your life and find yourself unable to get work or you simply want people to understand the trials that a brilliant game designer goes through when he's washed up in a sea of his own malcontent with the industry which he works in then, and I say this as apathetically as I can, I feel for your plight. It truly is sad when a grown and experienced man like yourself resorts to continually posting on an internet forum to attempt and spread your game design gospel.

All of the people in this and your other threads considers you arrogant because, Marc, you are. I and others consider you ignorant because of your complete inability to understand what even the helpful people in your threads have had to say. I'm closing this thread down, suspending your account for 24-hours, and I don't want to see another Pirate Dawn thread until all three of the following things happens:
  • A month passes.

  • You change your attitude and stop relying on your "pedigree" to garner you respect. Your past projects aren't a backstage pass and they aren't an FBI badge.

  • You greatly shorten your design document(s).
