I've got a C# WinForm app and I need a control that can display: * Colored text * Bold/Italic text * Graphical Icons RichTextBox blowz - the markup is meh and the incantations required to insert a graphic into the box at runtime are insane. I've thought about embedding Internet Explorer - this has the bonus of having nice markup (HTML), but the downside of being huge and adding dependencies to my project (and also potential update headaches down the road?) It's occurred to me that anyone that has writen their own IM client or source code editor must have had to solve the problem of their being no good standard way of displaying formatted text content in Windows. Does everyone write their own control? Or rip Gecko out of Mozilla? (ugh) I just want to plug something in that does what I need. Free would be nice too.

Why don't you use the WebBrowser control built in to .Net?

Maybe ScintillaNET is what you're looking for? Scintilla is a fairly mature source editor. I'm not sure how complete and/or easy the .NET wrapper is.

I am not talking about IE, I am talking about the C# .net control called WebBrowser. Take a look at it, you might be suprised.

That IS Internet Explorer. It's a .NET Wrapper for shdocvw.dll (IE Control)

A collection of very nice free open-source .net controls. I use the source code editor for GLuaR

No, GLuaR uses the Source Code Editor from dotnetfireball.
