what is salary for game programmer?
freshya, there seems to be plenty of programming job vacancies in the uk!!! Certainly, there are vacancies here too, but almost all require 10+ years exp. in C/C++, Corba, ASP, HTML, Java, SQL Server, ORacle, etc.
And what do I hear??? The Australian government *thinks* that the I.T. industry is booming and there are plenty of vacancies to fill but it doesn''t know for a fact that almost 99% of these jobs require you to have multiple skills with 10+ years experience.
Now, if a person cannot be hired because they don''t have multiple skills with so many years of commercial experience, how on earth are you going to employ this person?

I get the impression that many advertisers post high requirements on their ads to try and draw a better crowd. Why take a junior for $40k when you could take a 10years multiple skills guy for the same amount? They may only get applications from people straight out of uni, and in that case, they''ll prolly take one of them.
Also, I was talking to some bigwigs at last years AGDC and they said they look just as much at uni degrees / 10 years professional experience as they do real world experience (ie, have you made a demo, etc etc)

My favorite req was seeing a Web Dev position that was available back in 97, they wanted somebody with 10 years HTML experience.
I decided not to work for that company. Ever.
Might''a been interesting to meet the people that applied...
