After using bezier splines for a few months now, I am starting to question their quality and accuracy. The main functionality I need is to be able to find the closest point on a 3d spline, the length between two spline points ( following the splines curvature) and the tangent of a given point on the spline. As mentioned I am currently using Beziers and have written a divide and conquer solution to find the closest point on the spline, which works ok, however I have no real way of determing the length between to points on the spline or the length of the spline without iterating through it very slowly, granted I could do this offline but I still have the problem that the lengths between control points are not preportional. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding higher quality spline types and their advantages and disadvantages based on the requirements I mentioned above, Im not necessarily looking for an answer, any links to sites containing such information etc would also be really appreciated! Thanks in advance! Chris

I too have only worked with bezier, and am wondering about other methods.
There are some interesting samples at 'Rob The Bloke' site including; Hermite, Chaikin, Cubic-B, Nurbs.

Let me know if any of the methods suit your needs as they sound a little similar to mine.
