I have a question about vector notaion, and it's just a nitpicky thing. Look at the two images: \vec{A}=1\hat{i}+y_B\hat{j}-3\hat{k} \vec{A}=\hat{i}+y_B\hat{j}-3\hat{k} Which format should I use? The only difference is the '1' in from of the 'i hat'. Should I put a 1 there or should I leave it out? I'm writing a paper and I have several vectors that are like this, so I don't know if I should put a 1 there or not... Any ideas?

My personal preference: leave it out. It's redundant.

Unless you're explaining the correspondence between matrix coefficients and equation coefficients, don't bother with it.

upper arrow means it is an arbitrary vector, a "hat" means it is a versor. Versor ia a unit vector in axis direction. For a given coord system any vector can be expressed as linear combination of versors
