Ha ha that is funny! I'm surprised the commercial was released before the game though. Or was it leaked?

I'm not sure if it's leaked or not, but the PepsiCo made an official statement about the commercial. Here it is.

Indeed. Avoid it if you can.

While not fully deaf, I am severely hard of hearing. Not that far off, actually. I always appreciate efforts made to accommodate those who do not have full/any hearing levels. The awareness is a good thing, in my opinion :)

Yeah, the product placement dilutes the message somewhat, but I appreciate the gesture.

Well... Honestly, not too many people know about the Deaf community. This is one way of exposing them to the Deaf, and hopefully start a trend of people understanding our needs better.

those deaf guys were bastards

That was pretty good. Complemented my school computer's lack of a sound device really well! Hope more commercials lean toward those that are deaf by birth and those that are deaf by insufficient funding or desire to hook up sound to their computer. ;)

"Needs", you say. I'd be worried that a large percentage of viewers would have kryat's reaction - i.e., perceive the "need" of deaf people to irritate everyone else in the neighbourhood. >_<

Wait, so if someone that can hear annoyingly honks their horn to get a friend's attention, they're just normal but annoying pricks? But Deaf people can't do the same thing to get a similar effect?

The difference is that an average person knows many people with hearing that are not annoying pricks, and thus will not generalize from a single example. The same is not true about deaf people - most people know few or no deaf people, and thus might be willing to generalize from a single example.

Yeah I can see your point. The goal of this commercial was to be funny.

Real life, deaf people wouldn't do that because well, it's impractical. What if some houses didn't lit up? Which house is it then? What if Bob's house is lit up already, as well as others? The point is, deaf people aren't this rude :)

I could generalize from Axe commercials that women are stupid and are attracted to men mainly because of their smell. Or the budweiser commercials showing people doing dumb things yet they are hilarious to watch.

So don't base your facts on commercials (who would?)

But I've had some annoying hearing people treat me in a rude manner. For example, I went to a doctor without an interpreter, and I requested him to write down so I can communicate (I did this by gesturing, holding a paper and writing) but he refused, he assumed that I could lip read (which I can't) and just talked. It was frustrating

Another example is I was walking down a parking lot, and this woman was driving behind me, honking like crazy. I wasn't intentionally blocking her, I didn't know she was there, but when I glanced behind me and saw that she's behind me, I started to move over. She was angry, and flipped me off and drove past me.

There are many many examples where hearing people were at best rude at me. So, before you say deaf people are rude, think how you'd treat them in real life due to the fact that they can't hear you.

I thought the commercial was funny. If one particular commercial will be shown during Superbowl,

">this one will be the best.

I thought it was a funny Commercial.

Forgive my ignorance, but are deaf people permitted to drive?

I've even heard a deaf person (well, heard the interpreter) claim that deaf people are better drivers because they don't have the aural distractions (the example given was radio). And, admittedly, I don't think there are a lot of aural cues that I'd miss while driving (but I've never had to try). I wonder if this is maybe countered by having to communicate visually with passengers?

As for the commercial, it was funny. It's funny because they were being assholes. There's a Captain Morgan commercial where the guy lies to his girlfriend/wife to go to the bar instead of where ever it was she wanted to go. It's funny because he's being an asshole and everyone in the bar is helping him do it.
