Could any java developers point me in the direction for good beginner tutorials? Also, looking for some good java communities. Thank you

Well, naturally, I'd recommend GDNet as a community with a rich complement of Java programmers [smile].

Have you seen The SDN? They have a forum there too.
They also provide some tutorials.

Edit: Darn, too slow.

The tutorials on the java site are nice, but one of my favorite online tutorials for Java beginners is this one (I used it besides my book on java):
