Future intel processors

Where can I find good information about the future roadmap of intel processors? If I search with google for e.g. "8-core", I usually find articles from March 2007 that don't tell much or something about a Macintosh that's marketed as 8-core just because it has 2 quad core CPU's. Someone told me however that current motherboards that support the Core 2 Duo processor will also be able to support 8-core CPU's that Intel would release in the future. I have no idea where he found that information. Is there any good page, or someone who knows, what kinds of CPU's from Intel we can expect when?

From Intel.

He is just spreading bullshit. Future Intel CPUs would have memory controller on die, thus they would need new socket and, of course, new chipset.

Dual 45 nm, quad 45 nm, and if Larabee will not be a flop, then reduced (16 core) Larabee. IIRC 32 core Larabee has < 130 W TDP with 45 nm process. They might cut it down by throwing away cache prediction more than they already did.

What about 3d processor dies? OR at least multi layered 2d dies. I think the only current issue there is cooling.

Haven't seen anything about when 8-core CPUs are coming, but Intel have recently announced this motherboard...

http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/D5400XS/index.htm

Which supports 8-Core using two Core 2 Quads.

Dual socket boards aren't really something new. Hell, they had them back before 286's were popular, and boards with even more than two sockets.

But something I would like to know about some of the newer dual socket boards, can you run just a single processor on them? or do you need two usually?

The 8 core processor from Intel will be called Nehalem, here's some info here.

Nehalem

Most of this information will be speculative though, as everyone that know what this processor really can do, will have to have signed an NDA so no talkie :)

This Nehalem does look interesting, especially the idea of a CPU with integrated GPU sounds very attractive. Having specialized circuits for a graphics pipeline, shaders and matrix math directly in the CPU may be interesting for things beyond just computer graphics :)

I don't know about 8 cores but check this 6 cores out ->
