Hi guys. I applied for a LucasArts game software engineer internship. They have selected me for a 30 minute phone interview and told me they would ask me questions regarding programming and math. I am a little nervous as I can do some math but I am not a great mathematician. They wrote the following "which includes a short quiz covering programming and math." What kind of programming and math questions do you think I should expect? Thanks in advance!

Read up on matrix math and vector math. Those are the most likely candidates. There's thousands of questions you could ask on those topics though, so knowing the basic concepts is better than studying specific questions.

If you're no good at math then you might as well get better since you're going to need it for a lot of areas in game programming.

If someone doesn't post a useful answer, could you post what stuff you were asked after it happens? This way you'd at least get the chance to aid other people in your predicament.

It's LucasArts...just jedi mind-trick them into believing that every answer you give is correct.

May the Force be with you.

Can you answer these for example?

- how would you project vector to a plane
- you have an axis and you want to rotate around it by specified angle, describe
- how to calculate whether point lies on the left or right side of a line
- how would you detect if point is inside a polygon or not
- you have sun, rotating planet and its moon, how would you accomplish this
- you have a frustum(6 planes) and set of objects, how would you select which objects are visible in a frustum

etc.

On the phone I'd expect simple math questions, like

"What's a dot product?"
"When might I use a dot product?"
"What's the inverse of a matrix?"
"When is it useful?"

Yes, on the phone there will be simple questions! But its actually quite hard to answer them quickly and convincingly (stress, not so familiar with math, etc.) So you should be able to answer harder questions *offline* - then you are prepared for the phone interview as well.
