MUD game programming

Original Post
Hey everyone, the people at the Networking forum will remember me from a few days ago with my horridness with network code ;) I decided to go and search for the "MUD game Programming" book, but it appears the only american copy is at least $100 USD on the american amazon site. I checked on the UK amazon, and it was around 80, and on the canadian one, it was around 50. (I converted these to USD by the way) I don't want to HAVE to buy from outside the US, considering the shipping is probably higher, but if neccesary, I will. The book was not on the Course PTR site either... So, does anyone know where I could find this book? Thanks in advance.

What about another book? This one is cheap.
I have both books at home. Secrets of the Mud Wizards is an interesting read, but is extremely outdated.
Mud Game Programming is a good book, but really more for the techniques than the actual code, since it is using C++, and I might advise that it would be easier picking a higher level language like Java, C#, or even Python or Ruby to write a Mud, at this point.
I'll talk to you if I can't find it anywhere, but giving out my address to random people isn't on the top of my todo list. If I have no options, I'll get in contact.

I agree. I didn't learn about Python until I was halfway done with the book, and at that point I wished I could have done the entire thing in Python.
I didn't learn C# until after I wrote the book, and now I wish I just wrote the whole damn thing in C#.
Oh well. Live and learn.

I hear you on that. I just started playing with C# this week and I can definitely see how it has a lot of improvements over C++ to make your life easier. This was after not touching C# for years because of hearing all of the bad things about C# and the .Net framework. Hmm...
Anyway, back to the topic, I definitely enjoyed Mud Game Programming. My complements to the author of that book. [smile]
