I'd like to make a 64bit application with DirectX10 and Vista 64bit. I want all points to be three doubles and not three floats. The problem is that the layout description has description DXGI_FORMAT_R32G32B32_FLOAT which allows only floats, but there is no sach thing as DXGI_FORMAT_R64G64B64_DOUBLE. Does anyone know how to do it that DX would accept doubles?

D3D10 doesn't support doubles because no current GPU's support doubles. If any of them do support doubles in the future (or if one of the new GPU's already supports it), it's probably going to be exposed as a vendor-specific format until it gets added to the D3D10 standard in an update.

I've heard talk about FP64 appearing in future software and hardware revisions, but I wouldn't expect it to appear in the immediate future. There is a good case for graphics applications using FP32 but its still pretty unusual to require FP64 for a graphics app - most of the use cases for it would be in the GPGPU space instead...

The Radeon 38x0 cards support double precision, AFAIK. Unfortunately this isn't accessible through Direct3D.
