Greetings all! I'm glad to be here right now because I'm really interested in game development, programming , etc. All i really need though is a push on "where do i start" I was reading about shader languages (cg, hlsl), direct and opengl, etc. I really can't understand for example the difference between the shader languages. For example if i use cg to create gpu shaders and programs does that mean whoever plays my game will need the cg runtime library as well? But what about hlsl? Is this something thats already build into windows? Are most games today all using hlsl with directx? Think anyone can introduce me into the world of "development"? I'll appreciate every bit. Thanks :)

What part of development are you interested in? Is there a specific part, or do you just want to do all of it? If you are interested in the programming side of development, I would recommend learning C++ (unless you already know another language), and once you are good at that, move on and learn DirectX or OpenGL. A good book for learning C++ is C++ Primer Plus Fifth Edition.
