I'm dangerously low on movies in my Netflix queue. In the past I've encountered several great movies via recommendations from GDNet, so I figured I'd open the floor to suggestions. Feel free to pile them on - I'll ignore anything I've already seen. Make me proud (and entertained).

Iron Monkey
From Dusk Till Dawn
Big Trouble In Little China
Stripes
The Prestige
After The Sunset

Movies I've enjoyed watching or re-watching recently:

Ronin
Dark City
Before Sunrise / Before Sunset

Honestly, though, you'll get better recommendations if you let us know what your tastes are. What movies have you liked recently, and what have you liked about them?

Netflix should add a feature that let's you generate "recommendations" from particular groups. We could all join the "Gamedev" group, and ApochPiQ could then generate a list of movies based on all of our rating histories.

Vexille was enjoyable.

Dai-bosatsu tôge (aka Sword of Doom) ... a terrifing portrait of a samurai warrior who's on the brink of madness. The lead actor Tatsuya Nakadai, appeared in many great films. One stand out (aside from the Kurosawa films) is Kaidan.

Monsieur Verdoux A suave but cynical man supports his family by marrying and murdering rich women for their money, but the job has some occupational hazards. Written by Charles Chaplin and Orson Welles.

L'Armée des ombres (Army of Shadows) ... one of the best fiction movies ever made on the French resistance during Worl War II. Also by that same director, Le Samouraï, ... the cinematic embodiment of cool.

Ace in the Hole A frustrated former big-city journalist now stuck working for an Albuquerque newspaper exploits a story about a man trapped in a cave to re-jump start his career, but the situation quickly escalates into an out-of-control circus. Starring Kirk Douglas in one of his best.

A Face in the Crowd An Arkansas hobo becomes an overnight media sensation. But as he becomes drunk with fame and power, will he ever be exposed as the fraud he has become? You'll never look at Andy Griffith the same way again.

Sullivan's Travels Preston Sturges combines a social commentary with comedy in this brilliant film that is a tribute to his genius. This movie inspired Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? and many other films.

Baby Face Baby Face sleeps her way from basement speakeasy bartender, literally floor by floor, to the top floor of a New York office building. Barbara Stanwyck is brilliant in this 1933 pre-code film.

Johnny Guitar Joan Crawford stars in this Western-noir as a business woman with an illicit past who gets targeted for a lynching for a crime she didn't do.

You didn't ask for award-winners or anything. [grin]

UHF
Brain Donors
Strange Brew
Hardware Wars (I wouldn't be surprised if this is on youtube by now, in its entirety even. And if it's not then it should be.)

Plus, there's nothing quite like watching Tremors again every few years. Except for maybe Lake Placid. Or Jaws. Maybe Jurassic Park...

Tale of Two Sisters.
You either believe that within your society more individuals are good than evil, and that by protecting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible, or you believe that within your society more individuals are evil than good, and that by limiting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible.

Ugh. Go watch the old three. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was immensely disappointing (for me anyway).

I actually enjoyed both of those.

As for my recommendations:

High Fidelity
Babel
Motorcycle Diaries
The Negotiator
The Terminal
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Garden State
