Hehe, the GameDev.net crowd in a nutshell. In a quite recent post people were not late to let a guy know he used abbrevations and had bad forum etiquette (sp?) yet here no one cares, eventhough even the rest of the posts are questionable. And let's not forget Washu's language, as well as the "OK spam" in various other threads that go unnoticed.

I've had my share, thanks.
What?

Like Trapper_Zoid just said in another thread about this, a free pass is usually given to non-native English speakers.

I really have no idea why it annoys you that the 'forum,' which is clearly not a single, predictable entity, would be less than perfectly consistent... if it even is being inconsistent.
In the 'recent post' that he's talking about, an Indian guy got severely abused by a mod for using 'u' instead of 'you', he also lost about 200 rating points, which indicates the community in general agreed with the mod's abuse (no free pass there). The same guy also got suspended for (I assume) continually including a link to his blog at the bottom of his posts in defiance of the moderators who kept removing it for whatever reason.

I still don't know what this has to do with China/Olympics though??

The link to his blog was removed for IP logging or something of that nature, if I'm not mistaken.

Doesn't every website log visitors IPs, including this forum, which mods can use match individual posts back to your IP address(es)?

His blog had one of these dynamically generated images (warning: don't click if you don't want to see your IP rendered in an image) that shows you what your IP is to scare people that don't realise that every website *is* logging you. But the mods are always right so if he got told not to post that link he should have stopped. Seeing he made a new post to ask if it was ok to link to a blog or not, it seems he didn't seem to understand why he was being censored though... perhaps he just didn't read his PMs?

Either way, first impressions last, so I'm sure that guy shares SymLinked's opinions of us all thanks to the warm welcome we all gave him.
You know, I didn't wanna resurrect this thread just to say this but now that it's back up anyways - did anyone else catch Misty and Kerry's thank you to "Mr. President" when they won their gold and talked to the NBC reporter? :P Bush you sly devil. Seems he really did make an impression, hahaha.

Oh that's so very bold! [grin]

BTW,I found a nice(imho,of course) joke at BBCRussian.com
forum- seems me,moderators yawn it.It's quite sharp joke, political.
What will happen in case I'll decide to type it here?
I know forum rules, but now it seems me quite diffuse...
I speak seriously, because want to stay here some time yet:))

Send it to me in a PM and I'll give you some feedback about it's appropriateness.

Whatever man. The rating system has nothing to do with that. If someone likeable enough does something bad, it isn't frowned upon and people who note it are given lower ratings. Unless it isn't obvious already, my point was that using bad language to explain to someone that he's using abbrevations, isn't the best way to do it. But no one cares since.. well, he's a mod.

But you're right, not the right place to discuss it. I'm off.

I think you misunderstood me - I was agreeing with you ;P

I mentioned that he was rated down because this means that for whatever reason, a lot of people chose to side with the person using the bad language!
The bad-language-user wasn't rated down (very much), which illustrates your point - it seems popular people can get away with being bullies and anyone who tries to stop them gets attacked by the mob. You're absolutely correct.

Is that a morning fog or like heavy smog? I mean the visibility range is like nothing.
Could be smog - check out how much the visibility varies in these pics.
