What's with all the world records this year? It seems like every swimming race the world record is being either broken or crushed. How can someone beat a world record in a 200m swim by 1 second, or a 400m by 4 seconds? It's not like these guys aren't racing every year, I don't understand. Also, did not expect to see the US Gymnastics team over China for any amount of time. That was great stuff last night until the US blew it on their last 2 rotations. China is definitely in their own league in gymnastics, they can fall off bars and take big steps out of bounds on their dismounts and still beat everyone else's score.

They all have new super-duper swim suits. They're the swimming equivalent of a racoon's tail.
Yeah but I thought they've been using them for a while (like in the world championships).

I think they keep getting better though. When were the world championships?? this article reckons something changed in Feb and loads of records have gone since. At least one person thinks that the pool design has something to do with it too. Maybe water isn't water everywhere?!

For the record, Mario's leaf power-up turned him into a ring-tailed flying squirrel.
Kobe beat Yao Ming.
That's all I've got.
That's all I've got.

Come on, what kind of sense does a freaking racoon make? Racoons don't fly!

Well wikipedia backs me up! clicky. I feel vindicated!
Plus I'm not sure flying squirrels can take off from a running start, if we're talking realism!

Saw this earlier today.
Seems like they're using some pretty high tech stuff on the suit. Kind of makes you wonder if stuff like that should be allowed, since it really gives an unfair advantage to people who can afford it, and distorts the historical record of what humans can achieve.
I, for one, would not mind one bit if they went back to the ancient greek tradition of olympic nudity, purely out of interest for fairness (wink wink nudge nudge).
er um, at least for the ladies events.

A tanooki isn't even really a racoon, it's a completely different animal that english people called a "racoon dog".
Flying racoon makes no sense, and wikipedia is not a reliable source. I'm sticking to ring-tailed flying squirrel, especially since Mario spreads his arms out in order to fly. Psh, racoon, what a load of bollocks.

Phelps is a cyborg, period.
Phelps is unreal. He bacame the youngest person to break a world swimming record at the age of 15. He wins 200-meter Olympic races by multiple body lengths. He's 23, and he's already tied for the most Olympic gold ever, and likely to make records on that front never to be broken (could be 14 total by the time this is over, the old record is 9).

Being a gymnast, I was watching the competition with great interest. I can't believe how well Team USA did. It's mainly thanks to Russia, Romania and Germany all imploding on various events that USA even had a chance at a medal - they were expected to only place 5th or 6th. Japan could have given China more of a run for their money but they too suffered some missed routines and one of their vaulters almost stepped entirely off the runway. Johnathon Horton's rock-solid performance on all his events I think is was really kept the US spirit alive and rooted his team mates. After Kevin Tan's horse blunder, Artemov's comeback was fantabulous.
Realistically though, China's level of difficulty is so ginormous that yes, they can soak up the mistakes they made, like that failed first tumbling pass (falling off bars? They all had near-perfect sets in the finals), and still come in first.
And yes, Phelps is indeed a Cyborg. Did you see the way he came out on top during the 200m Fly??? He cruises in second the first 150m and then the last lap he manages to pull ahead by a full body length. And that was just the qualifier. Geeeez. As an athlete I have tons of respect for that guy. Amazing.

As of this the 4x200 just finished. All but one of the americans was wearing only pants, and they broke the record by I think 9 seconds. I just can't believe pants make so much of a difference, even if they are magic pants with motors in them. Also, wondering why if they help so much Phelps doesn't use the whole body suit.
Also, the chinese just fell off balance beam, could be another interesting night in gymnastics...
