We need someone to run Game Dictionary for us. Here''s what that entails:
  • Approving and editing user-submitted definitions
  • Providing definitions for words that are frequently searched for, but that we don''t have a definition for
  • [Optional] Update the site design, possibly even integrating it with the GDNet design
Anyone volunteering should have the following:
  • A broad knowledge of game development topics
  • Good writing and organizational skills
  • A couple of hours a week to kill. This isn''t something that''s going to take a huge amount of time, but it needs to be worked on consistently.
Unfortunately, the only compensation we can offer is recognition. If you''re interested, post here.

I would like to be considered for this position.

Education:
I graduated from university last year (BSc Computer Science, University of Central Lancashire, England)

Experience:
For the past 3 years I have worked in the Information Systems department of a local college. Recent projects have included assisting in creating and maintaining the data publishing side of their intranet site, and developing/maintaining their MIS system using VB6.

Languages Used:
some C, JScript, VBScript, HTML, VB Enterprise 6.0

I also have been researching ASP (Wonderful Wrox) and currently use Visual Interdev 6.0.
Game development in the broad sense is something I have recently become interested in (currently following Teej''s Game Development forum) but I am willing to research where required.
I feel quite excited about the prospect and look forward to hearing from you.

about time someone realized I wasn''t looking after that...

After careful deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that Nazrix is not cool. I am sorry for any inconvienience my previous mistake may have caused. We now return you to the original programming

I mean you''re not a friend or something like that to do a favor for

There are dozens of people that visit the site that I''ve talked to regularly over the past couple of years, some of which I''ve met in person, and many of which I''d consider friends.

the money from the advertisings? The site shows over a millon banners a month (condition to use doubleclick.com) and your intention is to get the money without working at all.

Do you have any idea what''s going on with the banner market lately? Obviously not. 3 million impressions translates into a couple hundred bucks a month, and guess what: our server bills are a bit more than that. In the more than two years I''ve been doing this, I''ve seen a few hundred dollars personally. I figure that I''ve averaged less than $0.25 per hour. Wow, that''s some great scam I''ve got going here!

The reason I put the time I do into this is because I care about the community, but I don''t have an infinite amount of time to do it. I knew that there were others out there who feel the same way as I do about the community, which is why I asked for some help. If you have a problem with that, feel free to take your ignorant accusations elsewhere.

That AP was just plain assinine! To whoever wrote that... Some of us actually have a sense of community here and are willing to put in volunteer work. I, for one, love this site and have great repect for the hardy souls who put their lives into it. I am all in favor of just deleting your post as it has negative signal/noise and is just a waste.

What''s funny is that Anonymous Poster probably get FREE informations from gamedev.net, but he doesn''t complain about that. I mean there are some great papers, tuts, forums on this website, available for free, though that moron didn''t consider that.

Continue with your good work guys, I wish I could help for the site but my writing and knowledge are a little bit too limitated to write good stuff. I''m french and still learning about game programming...

Thanks guys for investing your time and effort for the community, it''s really appreciated

Hey! I would love to help out with this. I have created my own glossary of game design terms, and that was a very good experience.

I don''t have any current programming skills, with the exception of HTML. I used HTML and some basic tags to create my glossary. If you would like to take a look at that project, please check out the following link:

http://gamedesign1.tripod.com/Glossary.html

Because of my lack of expertise in areas such as C++ programming, I may not be the best candidate to actually approve the definitions. But I care about the quality of the work I do. And I am very interested in making contributions to the Gamedev community.

Even if someone else actually runs the project, I will certainly contribute whatever I can.

And by the way, any feedback on my own Glossary would be appreciated.

Hey, Rhino, I know you''ve probably still got a little bad opinion of me from that long response I wrote about that front-page article a couple months back, but hey, lets clear the slate, I''m a pretty nice guy. I''d love to help with something like this, though, I have to be honest, I can only give my weekend hours up for about a month, as I"m stuck away from home for about five more weeks. But once I get back to my own place, I''ll be able to spend hours a day at it. I''d like to think I''m pretty objective and fair in my judgements, so I''d love to be listed among applicants for this spot. Get a little recognition behind this name. heh. email addy is in the sig.
