Android Anyone?

Original Post
I have just started using Android. I've done some work on the iPhone but I'm hoping this is easier since I come from a Java background using Eclipse. What are you using in your game? I'm getting ready to tackle the Open GL ES and some examples would be great.
Am starting off fairly simple with a few levels and using the "displayables" type animation it supports. My second game is going to be a little more ambitious, but figured it was best to work out all the kinks in the initial game first. Am getting more comfortable with the SDK, and having the separate view logic and engine logic.
Here's some reasons why android is superior to the iPhone, IMHO:
1) Development can be done on Mac, Linux, or Windows, and you do not have to subscribe to any development mailinglist / group
- With the iPhone sdk, you have to use OSX >= 10.4, and be signed up for their development group
2) They won't restrict the release of apps that may compete with their default apps like Apple will.
3) It runs on many phones, personally I'll probably get a neo freerunner and put android on it.
But yes, I will be trying some OpenGL ES action out as soon as that happens.

I'd wait until there's proper support for a soft keyboard! As far as I can tell there is none in the SDK. Some applications have their own, but there is none that behaves like a Windows Mobile SIP or the iPhone keyboard. I speculate that Google were so focused on the G1 that the soft keyboard support was delayed. There is a build of Android that works on my phone, the Verizon xv9600 (HTC Vogue). Someone wrote a kernel module that will display a keyboard when the camera key is pressed. It works but isn't a long term solution.
I just read on the android site that it only runs emulators on the computer and doesn't actually work on any phone is this true? Here is a copy and paste of the FAQ in reguards to this:
Will Android run on <insert phone here>?
No. There is currently only an Android SDK for the Windows, Mac OS X(intel), and Linux(i386) platforms. The SDK includes a software emulator on which you can test Android applications.

Am I just miss understanding this, or are they just talking about the SDK not running on phones?

Android does run on phones. It's running on mine right now. A quick search on youtube will bring up lots of videos of Android running on phones.
The first phone preinstalled with Android is the T-Mobile G1. Preorders should be shipping tomorrow (10/22).
